Bogleheads:Article templates

From Bogleheads
Jump to: navigation, search

If an editor finds that s/he is using similar text again and again, please create a template (using a name such as Template:xxx). Templates must include <noinclude>[[Category:Templates]]</noinclude> syntax so that they are automatically collected on the Templates category page. They should also include a brief description of what they do so that a reader accessing the template from the category page will know what it does. This description should be enclosed by the <noinclude></noinclude> syntax so that they are not part of the template.

|quote = "Index investing is an investment strategy that Walter Mitty would love. It takes very little investment knowledge, no skill, practically no time or effort -- and outperforms about 80 percent of all investors. It allows you to spend your time working, playing, or doing anything else while your nest egg compounds on autopilot. It's about as difficult as breathing and about as time consuming as going to a fast-food restaurant once a year."

Note: To ensure consistent Book Box sizing throughout the wiki, please reduce your book-cover image width to 200px maximum, as shown in the above code example. The image is clickable if someone wants to see the full-resolution version. The above code will also enlarge images smaller than 200px wide, but be aware that forced enlargement of a low-resolution original may result in a grainy image.

{{Table}} Well, nothing by itself. The table template simply establishes some simple table formatting such as a 1 pixel border and shaded column headings.

However, if you use the Excel to wiki converter and cut-and-paste spreadsheet data into the window, it will automatically generate wiki table code that will work in conjunction with the table template to produce:

Fund Name Stock % Bond %
Growth 80 20
Balanced 60 40
Income 30 70

You can take data straight from your spreadsheet to the wiki. No tedious hand-coding of tables required!
