International bond returns

Post by konik »

Hi all!

1) Can you point me to a more or less comprehensive data on bond returns across different countries and comparing bond returns to respective stocks returns? Both in developed countries like France or UK and developing?

2) Are there fundamental reasons why equity premium should be larger than term? I recall in XIX century bond and stock returns were pretty similar.

You could check out the 2023 Credit Suisse Yearbook Summary.

Figure 11 on page 15 shows real annualized returns on equities versus bonds and bills from 1900–2022 for various countries.

Figure 3 on page 11 is an updated version of that change in global share of market cap chart that everyone loves to post from 2012.

There's a cool equity risk premium chart here too (that's not in the summary): https://www.credit-suisse.com/about-us- ... 02302.html
