Estimated Tax Payment not yet processed

Post by Namashkar »

I made an estimated tax payment on Dec 29, 2022 and it is still not processed. When I sign on to my account and view payment activities, it shows that it is being processed. It has been about 15 days. Is this normal? I tried to see if I can contact IRS, but there is no phone number that I can use to call IRS. Anybody experienced this issue?

It often takes many weeks to update. If the payment debit hit your bank, you have no worries.

I made a 1040-es payment on Jan 2 using ACI, and the payment currently shows up on as pending in my IRS account within a week.

If I were you I wouldn’t worry too much if the payment has been debited from your bank account. If you can show that they’ve cashed the check you should be fine, in the long run.

However in my experiences the last few years the IRS phone and online systems are shamefully slow/broken and it could take weeks, months, or even years for them to catch up and show your timely payment. It is an awful feeling to wait, and I wish you the best.

In my experience, as they prepare for the new tax filing season, all of the IRS website features are unusually clunky.

I used Direct Pay for the fourth quarter 1040-es payment. The ACH occurred on December 27. Tonight I checked my IRS tax account. It shows the ACH payment pending: "We are processing your payment, and it's not reflected in your balance." However, it shows the dollar amount and the date December 27. Hopefully, it will be processed before I file in April.

Regards,
How did you make the estimated tax payment?

Did you mail it in using USPS mail and a physical check? That might take weeks to arrive, process and clear.
The IRS Direct Pay is usually faster.
The free EFTPS Electronic Federal Tax Payment System is said to be the easiest, and should not take 2 weeks.
I have no experience with the IRS2GO app or paying with cash or credit or debit card.

I made estimated tax payment on-line from my checking account. My checking account shows a debit entry for this. So I am not worried as I understand the IRS is slow. Thanks everybody for the responses.

Wow, my December 27, 2022, ACH payment for the fourth quarter estimated taxes is still pending. The amount and date are posted on the IRS website. The amount left my bank account on December 27th. Has anyone seen their recent IRS payments moved out of the pending category?

I use EFTPS and whatever scheduled payment hits my bank within 2 days. Not sure about other places.

Regards,

The first three weeks of January are the dead cycle. So payments will not post. Check again after January 23. Even IRS employees might not be able to see them pending. After the dead cycle, the system posts all the holding transactions.

Relax. I’ve been making ES payments electronically for years and they have never not reconciled when I file my returns. Besides, you have proof that the payments were timely made.

Follow Up: Sometime during the night, my "pending" electronic payment (Dec 27) was reclassed to "processed."
