I am delighted to win the best Avatar award. Thank you.
So, you know, I am kind of new to this? Do I have to put together some sort of acceptance speech?
Do I thank all the little people who made this all possible? Do I owe the Shulz estate a royalty?

Just to be clear, we did not hand out those awards. The Discourse platform does it automatically.AnnetteLouisan wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 11:36 am What a year it’s been! OMG. I'm cool.
I really enjoy this community. I have experienced unexpected kindness here, and (for a rather right-brained, creative writer-artist type), I have learned to manage my money with sound strategy. It's so nice to know that some very smart people will provide perspective when I'm thinking of making financial decisions.
AnnetteLouisan: you're a breath of fresh air, and you round out the group quite well! So glad you joined us.
Thanks to everyone who has helped me along my way! And especially to our moderators, who keep this place civil.
Here's to 2023!

I am honored to receive the "most witty and edgy" award among this fine group of colleagues and Ben's hair. I also teared up a bit at the Discourse generated message at RR. I am new to RR so seeing that thoughtful hard data was a nice surprise. First bonds became worth owning again and now this! I guess 2022 was not so bad after all!

Please consider me for “outstanding achievement for shouting into the wind”. If there’s no echo, does that mean there was nothing said? No, but seriously … I love these awards. There’s been many times my frustrations have lead me to search out my two favorite posters: KlangFool and Joe Retire. What some deem as “candid”, I just see good old fashioned common sense. And often a proverbial kick in the butt. Happy new year !AnnetteLouisan wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 11:36 am What a year it’s been! Definitely want to include Gail Cox for her work on the Life State Chapters and for keeping things running during the pandemic. And I can't thank her enough for being part of my "dream team" that put on the Bogleheads Conferences over the years. She was (and is) someone I could depend on to get things done without having to worry or micro-manage her. She's a real sweetheart and I love her dearly.Miriam2 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 4:25 pm The Bogleheads Online Zoom Meeting Awards go to:

I’d like to give an award to sscritic for being so knowledgeable on everything related to Social Security. He could always explain which claiming strategy was optimal for the given situation.
I hope he is able to return some day.
And may I claim the award for:
Best Roth Convetsion Advocate: celia
If LadyGeek can nominate herself, I would like to too!

I am delighted that Ben Felix has decided to participate in our community, I have enjoyed his YouTube videos for years. I like that he has real life experience in the financial industry as a portfolio manager and that he can explain academic research in an understandable manner.AnnetteLouisan wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 12:47 pmBenFelix of Rational Reminder wins for best hair (male) and most unflappable.Ben Felix wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 12:43 pmJust to be clear, we did not hand out those awards. I also want to recognize Vineviz, who has made a big contribution here. He is very knowledgeable about academic research as well and also does a good job explaining advanced concepts. Bobcat2 deserves recognition as well. Their contributions to threads based on an Alan Roth article and a follow-up Bill Bernstein piece were epic. Vineviz and Bobcat2 had spirited exchanges with Bernstein and Roth which will be long remembered. Sort of like the old days of Ferri vs. Swedroe.

Not necessary, but thank you for the thought, Taylor. I already won (uncontested) for best retro hairstyle and am basking in the glory that by rights should be Annette Funicello’s.
It’s very gratifying to see some of my threads find resonance with people, such as the one about what people are doing differently in 2023.

I love threads like this. What is discussed here on a daily basis can get a bit dry, but threads like this wrap the community with a layer of humanity.
I nominate myself for funniest signature line.
I'm a fan of Rick Ferri, too. Here's a funny and true story that I haven't shared (beyond the scope of the Houston forum).
Rick was here in Houston around 2011-12 to discuss a new book "The Power of Passive Investing" with the Houston chapter. Very informative meeting, as expected. When it was time to sign autographs, I followed through with practical joke. I stepped up to Rick and said "Rick, I've always wanted you to sign this book." The book was "The only guide to a winning investment strategy you'll ever need" by Larry Swedroe. Rick's response was hilarious:
"Ah, man, Larry and I have been getting along so much better lately!" We got some good laughs in and Rick was a great sport about it. So, of course, I took Larry's book back and has Rick sign his famous "All about asset allocation" book for me. If memory serves, Livesoft was there. Ditto for Wagnerjb, bnwest and a few others.
Rick and Larry had some classic mud wrestling matches back in the day. But Rick was a great sport and a superb speaker. Fun times.

Re: 2022 Annual Awards [Bogleheads forum]
I've reported this thread to the moderators for being too political.
But seriously, just writing to say that I fully support an occasional light-hearted "kudos" thread like this. There will always be many hundreds of posters who deserve at least an honorable mention who won't get named and that's OK because no one here has and ego (or at least, no one here SHOULD have an ego).
In addition to nominating sscritic for a "posthumous" award (the real-life person behind sscritic is alive and well btw), I'd like to nominate Oblivious Investor for something, ANYTHING, lol. I would also like to nominate every poster with 10 or fewer posts. You came, you saw, and you either left or are still lurking in the shadows and that's all still OK.

If you have to ask "Is a Target Date fund right for me?", the answer is "Yes" (even in taxable accounts).

Hi Annette -
Just seeing this and loving it! I laughed out loud and sent Dave an email.
I suspect Dave won’t completely understand until he has a chance to regroup after his plane lands. Dave purchased the low cost and indexed GulfStream without a fully pressurized cabin so he gets a little lightheaded
Happy New Year!

Poster celia's frequent Roth conversion advice is very often tailored to posters' specific inquiries. She deserves an award for her wise advice to those early retirees, who are already on board for buy & hold, VG index investing.

Fun Thread!
Nispirius — Group Logician — For all of his clear and well researched posts to so many questions.
Sandtrap — Renaissance Man — He seems to be a master in so many areas from Real Estate to Repair
Longvest, Simond , Ben Mathew — Spend Masters — I think their work in VPW, ABW, and TPAW is original and outstanding. It’s given us an amazing confidence to actually live out our Retirement Plans.
Bigfoot — Spreadsheet Geek— For all his hard work in building and maintaining the Retire Portfolio Model.

Fair enough, but he only started posting with gusto in 2021. And he’s young and has a cool name. Are you challenging the award committee’s methodology? it’s an art, not a science.retired@50 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 5:17 pmI'm puzzled by this selection. VartAndelay joined in 2015.
