Fremdon Ferndock,
If you ordered it online, you might be able to find the code from your purchase email confirmation.

I got this email on Nov. 8 2021:
"Hudson, " your H&R Block 2021 Deluxe Federal + State is ready!

Use the code below to access your software.

Your activation code is: XXXXX-XXXXX

Here's how to get started:
Maybe search your emails for: Your H&R Block tax software is here!

or for the sender: taxes-noreply@hrblock.com

I'd like to know how this works, because I ordered my 2021 HRBlock download from Amazon last year. Yes, there's a record of the purchase, but NO there doesn't appear to be any way to re-download it. I'd love to be able to do that.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/swvgdtt/your- ... loads.html

I can still download my 2011 HR Block.
Thanks Grogs and Mervinj7. Worked like a charm. I had purchased HRB Federal + State 2021. I bought a new laptop and was hoping to use my HRB 2021 on it. I'm able to re-install from Amazon but the program still won't run the State. It requires re-purchase. I guess the re-installed program is not fresh and doesn't enable a free State. Wish I knew a way around this.
If the license is for federal +state, you should be able to download the state again once you get to that page. What error do you get?

As long as you have your license key,I have reinstalled state 5 years later, no problem

Are you referring to the page in the HRB program? When I get to the State, it wants me to purchase the State for $39.95 as if don't have the Federal+State program.

What price do you set the alert for? Like others, I'm hoping there's the standard Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals, but this seems like a good way to keep an eye out for deals at other times.

Please keep us posted on what you find. I just received an email from HR Block with the following offer for prepaid 2022 Win Delux Federal: "In mid-November, we'll charge $34.95 plus applicable sales tax to the card you used when you signed up for Auto Renewal."

I cancelled the auto renewal since it seemed too high for Delux Federal (no state).

I got my download activation code last week, but didn't get to the software until now.

After the program is started (Welcome --> Getting started), you are presented with a "Help us personalize your H&R Block Experience" screen --> Next.

It then goes to the same screen as last year "Let's get the legal stuff out of the way" and is nothing more than permission to market your personal info.
Important information

By agreeing, you authorize H&R Block to disclose to H&R Block Personalized Services, LLC all your 2022 tax return info... so that, after you file, H&R Block Personalized Services can develop, offer, and provide products and services tailored to or that may interest you, such as...

...You understand that if you do not consent you may not see valuable advertisements, products, or services...
Note the double-negative wording.

Don't check the "I consent to the disclosure of my information to H&R Block Personalized Services, LLC." box, then click on "No, thanks".

---------------------------
The next software update is scheduled for 1/5/2023. The forms are not finalized, but you have something to work with.

Federal form status can be found here: Federal Tax Form Updates for Tax Preparation Software

State software is not available until 1/5/2023. I signed up for email notification when my state becomes available.

State form status can be found here: State forms

Thanks! Me too.
Thanks for the links to Federal and State forms; I missed that.
I ran a trial 2022 return and found a few surprises...not enough withholding was the worst surprise. RMD withholding should fix that. I now know where IRMAA, MAGI, and I stand for 2024.

Any opinions on using the Basic $19 version? Will it handle all forms, including K1? And how good is at at importing pervious year data from Turbo Tax?

It doesn't include a state return (moot if you live in certain states) and it doesn't include free e-file. If you are expecting a refund and don't want to wait a very long time, I suggest e-filing. My family members that filed the same time as I with paper returns took 6 months longer to get their refunds. Also, the cost on their website ($19) for basic is almost the same as deluxe if you get a good deal like on Black Friday.

Deluxe includes a few other features that I don't think mean a lot. I do think some investment forms and self employed forms aren't in the Basic version.

Basic does include free federal e-file. It's currently $15 at Walmart.

You're right. I misread the "Fees for state & state e-file".

On Nov 9th I Googled H&R Block, saw a good price for 2022 Deluxe, and purchase on the spot rather than wait for the typical Black Friday sales on Amazon and others.

I bought a download of Deluxe (Fed only) via Walmart online for $18.60.

Sorry if this is too late for others, but I haven't been looking in Personal Finance for months.

It's gone up to $24.97 which is still a pretty good deal.

Great deal - $17.49 for Deluxe 2022 Mac download (and no tax since it’s a download). Thanks for the heads-up!

Thanks. I bought it. There was a glitch and the coupon did not show up for the version that I wanted when I searched for it. Then it was fine when I logged off and searched again. Interesting. I am surprised that Amazon has not matched the sale.

Thanks. This is the same offer i used last year on black Friday.

The offer is available for both the key card version and the download version. Are there any reasons to prefer one over the other?

I prefer the digital. If I get a new computer or need to reinstall I have the link to download in my email rather than saving a physical DVD somewhere.

The Newegg offer is still active. I bought the Window's download Deluxe Federal version for $17.49 (after the application of the 50% off offer). I paid $16.50 at Amazon last year. Perhaps there will be a better offer, but a "bird in hand...yada, yada" works for me.

I have always used the download version of H&R Block, and TurboTax before I switched. Never had any issue with either company using the download version.

Obviously it is useful to save the product key info, in case something happens over time. With Amazon orders, it is easy to find what might have been lost.

Interesting - I paid exactly the same price at Amazon last year. The NewEgg price is certainly good enough, so I guess I should snag it.

Me too. No sales tax was charged.

For other people ordering be sure you are ordering the correct version since there are different choices for Windows or Mac and with or without a state tax return.

They charged me sales tax. I wonder whether it is location dependent. It is good that they charged sales tax as I don't have to keep track of use tax.

Newegg calls it keycard...but it is just a physically shipped DVD. At least that is the way I interpret it.

To add to my comment above, I don't even have a DVD reader on any of my 3 laptops...so that isn't even an option for me.

I've been reporting a decreasing amount of use tax every year and I think this year it's zero so far, due simply to more entities collecting tax (and me buying fewer items.) I agree it's nice to not have to deal with use tax.

I usually add about $100 to my recorded list of purchases so that I don't accidentally pay less than I owe. I assume that the government does not mind me paying extra. :happy

I've been reporting a decreasing amount of use tax every year and I think this year it's zero so far, due simply to more entities collecting tax (and me buying fewer items.) I agree it's nice to not have to deal with use tax.
Everywhere I order from online charges me sales tax since I mostly order from larger retailers. One thing I have noticed is some retailers (when ordering online) only charge the state portion and not the city/county portion of the sales tax.

For my other software (not H&R Block) the keycard was a small package actually mailed to me with printed code to unlock the program and the link to download location. No DVD inside.

You are correct. If you scroll down toward the bottom it says "PHYSICAL CODE BY MAIL for Windows and Mac Operating Systems. Download instructions and activation code will be delivered to your physical mailing address."

In addition to the physical difference mentioned, some states charge sales tax on key cards but not downloads. Some charge tax on both. (And some charge on neither)

I just ordered the HR Block software on Newegg. Thanks for the info!

FYI - Even though you are supposed to select PC or MAC when you order, the download version allows you to select WIN or Mac during installation. It was only maybe 5-10 minutes between ordering and getting the email that I could now download the software.

I usually buy from Amazon, but IMO the prices at Amazon have been very volatile this year. Since this was a great price, I decided to buy today. Thanks again for the heads up.

Got it. 22.49 for deluxe + state for windows, download; no sales tax (CA).
If I make a calculation error, #Cruncher probably will let me know.

And of course, two minutes after I order the software and pay with Paypal, Fidelity sends me email telling me it would give me $5 to order anything with Paypal and pay with my Fidelity Visa. Which of course I didn't.

It would be free for you after the $5 (and get cash if the offer allows to buy something < $5.)

Actually thanks, that's a thought, because I could use a couple of flash drives. But maybe I'll get $5 off a larger one because it seems like 32GB doesn't always suffice for recovery drives (one use I have for them) any longer.

Just bought the HR Block Deluxe and State download at Newegg: $22.50 + Illinois State tax $2.25 = $24.74.

There does appear to be a limit on when the codes will work as slickedals.net shows expired deal.

Direct at Newegg website worked for me using the link from other messages. I did have to place in cart then exit to open a new browser before the discount code appeared and changed the price. The actual download info is sketchy but after 45 years in IT, I would expect no less. After I downloaded the software, I backed it up twice before executing the EXE file. Thanks for the tip on no ads and the Newegg link!
