new leather couch - any recommendations
We are in the market for a new 3 seater leather couch. Any brand recommendations or suggestions. This is new territory for us. We are retiring a 10 year old cloth sectional to the basement / tv room for the kids. Thanks!

One big thing to do it to spend some time understanding all the different grades of leather and leathery things they can legally call leather.
It has been a while since I have done that but if you are going to get a low quality leather couch then you are probably better off just getting one with some sort of synthetic fabric.
The quality of upholstered furniture has greatly declined over the last few decades and companies are really skimping on the part of the furniture that you cannot see so even some expensive furniture may not last a long time now.
I don't have any good suggestions but be prepared to take a lot of time researching the purchase.

Wellington fine furniture out of NC. It was recommended to me from this forum. Not cheap but excellent to deal with. They will send leather samples to you. I paid $5000.00 for a sectional and have never regretted it.

IDK what your household looks like (young kids, pets, etc), or have any brand recommendations, but I do believe you get what you pay for.
Maybe 7 years ago I bought a $5k ish leather couch, which stung a bit at the time. 5 years later, it was aging well, still comfortable, etc. For reasons I wont get into, I replaced it 2 years ago with a $2-2500 couch. It is not aging well, and I'd be surprised if I get 5 years out of it.

Stay far far away from Lazy Boy. Not the same company it once was. Very poor quality and no longer stands behind its work. There are several facebook groups that exist that detail their decline. There is even talk of starting a class action suit.

+10
We bought one. That was so comfortable that we bought more. Not everyone’s taste, but so comfortable on the back.
I get the FI part but not the RE part of FIRE.

Do the research and pay what is required to get a quality product with full grain leather, hardwood frame, and quality built cushions. We have a Thomasville leather sectional that cost $5,500 when new, premium price at the time,...16 years later it still looks great and very comfortable. Thomasville unfortunately out of business.

Ask your friends and acquaintances for help.
Brand is American Leather. From your friends. We got a brand new leather sofa from an acquaintance who bought it and then decided to move to a smaller place and could not take it with them. Literally an unused sofa that they paid $3,000 for (with tax) for only $500. It is very very nice.

We got one from costco.com when there was a sale. You can request samples of the leather. We found one we liked.

Re: new leather couch - any recommendations
I'm sitting on a corner sectional leather couch we purchased about 15 years ago. It's a Bradington Young. Our style and color preferences have changed, the couch has become a little 'soft' where I usually sit, and we've moved to a different house that calls for a pair of couches instead of a sectional.
For those reasons we recently ordered a new pair of Bradington Young couches through our local Thomasville dealer. We've obviously been very satisfied with the Bradington Young brand and would highly recommend it.

Have a plan, stay the course and simplify. Then ignore the noise!

In 2002, we bought a two-seat sectional from Elran in Canada because the foam did not contain brominated fire retardants (PBDE's). Since then PBDEs have been banned in furniture in the US, so that is not an issue now. The leather is still in good condition but occasionally need to reset the screws holding wood in the footrest to the lowering mechanism.

+1. We bought two of their couches for our living room. Very satisfied.
Re: new leather couch - any recommendations
After having a previous locally bought ‘leather’ couch last about 5 years before it started showing unacceptable wear, we bought one from https://www.cascobayfurniture.com/ 10 years ago. They have a huge selection of styles, and almost any piece can be customized in length, depth, leather quality and type, cushion fill, etc. They work with furniture makers in NC and most of their products are solid wood frames, hand tied suspensions, any grade of leather you’d like, all at a very reasonable price compared to brand names. I called them recently with a care question and someone answered the phone and answered my questions completely.
At 10 years old, having raised 3 kids and 2 dogs on it, the couch still looks essentially same as new. Should easily last another 10 - likely much more.
