83% equities (VTI VFIAX VIG VYM IJR VXUS VIGI VYMI)
15% bonds (VGSH VBTLX VGIT iBonds)
2% cash (money market)

Includes emergency fund in that allocation. Fixed dollar amount in EF across Cash, iBonds, VGSH, and VGIT. Working my way to 90/10.

Yes my AA has nothing to do with market conditions, I am always heavily invested in the markets. 70/30 or age-10 in bonds until age 60 then fixed at 50/50. Somewhat arbitrary but based on a careful review of how AA has performed in the past and my own investment needs.

It doesn't imply anything. This place does not reflect the overall market participants.

We are largely index investors who shun market timing.

And I think if you see "everyone" very heavy in equities you are misreading the responses. link.

I'm looking to go 60/40 for our retirement. We own our house so if you include that our ratio is:

67.25% stocks (30% is international)
15.25% fixed income/cash
17.5% real estate
Small update. Given we plan to retire in my early to mid 50s we've decided our target retirement ratio is 75/25. More equity is better for retirements with a longer time horizon.
Same. We're around the same age and will hover around 75/25 to 80/20 for a 40+ year retirement.

What was the reason you decided against the 200 day SMA strategy? I was keen to start that strat.
I will start the 230 SMA strategy the next time that SP500 is above its 230 day moving average. Thus - currently I am not in UPRO / SSO. It's in line with the strategy to be out of UPRO & SSO once SP500 is below its 230 day SMA.

I will slowly build up my UPRO exposure at different top-to-through levels (-25%, -30%, -35% etc.)

Btw, my current asset allocation:

Equities: 127.0%
Cash: -27% (USD)
VWO 21%
VEA 25%
VTI 54%

other accounts representing roughly 20% -> 100% Switzerland.

I retired at 45.

No pension or rental income. I’ve been living in apartments my entire adult life and have never owned a house which helped keep expenses low. I haven’t had any debt since paying off my school loans.

My plan is to maintain my current AA and keep living off the dividends. I’ve never sold a single share up to this point and my goal is to keep it up until RMD’s. I’d like to think that if I can accomplish that Mr. Bogle would have approved, and might even have given me an “Atta boy.” :happy

Age 62; DW 69
50%/50%, Stay the Course, and living life

Currently, down 15.4% YTD
- 39% Stocks (S&P500)
- 10% Int'l
- 22% Bonds (VBTLX)
- 29% Stable Value - Fortunate move - moved large portion of Bonds to Stable Value in January
Emergency Fund 5% in addition to Investments

While not enthralled with the bear, inflation, and seeing savings fall, this is the risk I accepted at 50/50, so I sleep well, and will adjust as needed.

Some potential moves:
- Buying TIP funds (first in Roth accounts)
- Keep working for another 1-2 years and buying low
- SS at 67
- Sleep well again tonight
- Continue to be thankful for life with the wife of my youth, family, grandkids, and health (running another half-marathon next month)!

Our age and asset allocation reflects our longer-term goals for spending, charity and heirs.
It could not possible help anyone that does not have a very similar set of goals, perhaps would even mislead them.

I did buy on the close on Friday like I said I was going to do on the 24th. Purely from a historical perspective I don’t think there’s a reason to rush into equities- especially US equities. Why? Because the average drawdown in a bear market is about 36%. On Friday US equities (TSM) were down about 26% from the ATH. With that info, I feel like the time to get really aggressive begins at 36%, which is where I’d stop dollar cost averaging and make a lump sum purchase. I’m sure stocks would decline further from there, but investors who have a robust plan rarely regret buying equities at 36% from ATHs as long as they’re able to ride out the bear market.

I am still 35+ years from retirement.
50% VTI
20% VXUS
30% EDV

As I get closer to my retirement and my investment horizon shrinks, I will start investing in etfs that have lower average duration to match how long I have until I hang up my work boots. Going from Long Term to Intermediate to Short Term bonds. And once I retire and extra money each year is going to go back into very short term bonds and tips.

EDIT: I also keep a $20,000 emergency fund in my credit union, but if they don't update their rates soon I'm going to move a big chunk of that over to a money market fund.

Including the mortgage, I'm 105-110% equities. No direct international. About 15 years until early retirement (I hope), 36 years old.

But I also have a government pension and if that were included and considered a bond it would bring my number closer to age-in-bonds.

Down 10% YTD; fortunate that wife has access to G fund that holds 28% of our portfolio. Although as we are at the pointy ends of our careers the drop is nerve wracking.

Two thoughts, swr. 1. If a 10% drop is nerve wracking, you need to rethink your allocation. 2. If you rebalance weekly you need to rethink your allocation.

Personally I am way more aggressive than you (90% equity at 58), but if either of those were true for me I would think seriously about my tolerance.

Good luck,

My wife and I are both planning on retiring next July - watching the $ so we can do some Roth conversions in the first couple of years of retirement and then draw down 4% a year to meet our needs. 10 years ago I was close to 100% stocks and not concerned so much about market down turns.
A good day today to be 90% equities!

I'm in my upper 70's in age. As of today in my main 403b retirement account: 63% equities. I don't follow the "age in bonds" dictum. I also have money invested separately in a brokerage account -- about 25% of my overall investment portfolio. (Also I own real estate: homes.)
