Roth and Traditional funds

Post by Bama12 » Sat Oct 12, 2019 6:18 pm

I have a Roth IRA with Vanguard. I just open a Traditional IRA with vanguard for next year.

My roth funds are Wellesley and Wellington. I was going to exchange both and go more stocks in my roth. I was going to come back next year with Wellesley and Wellington in my Traditional.

I just notice you really can not buy any index funds in roth.(VFIAX,VEXAX,VSMAX,VTSAX) I have these in my 401k (both roth 401k and regular 401k) at work. I'm thinking i'm better off just to max out my 401k and not even worry about Traditional or Roth Ira.

What vanguard funds do you buy in Traditional and Roth.

You are not correct. You can buy the same funds in Roth or Traditional, including index funds.

They all say close when I try to exchange. I'm missing something?

You are probably trying to buy Investor shares of the funds. Vanguard has discontinued the Investor shares, and you can now buy Admiral shares for the same minimum investment of $3000.
