My impression has been the Mods have been discouraging the discussion of individual's specific moves in these threads.

I tried to keep just enough gold to be about the national average holdings for retirement...but went up an age bracket and quite a bit short now.

It's not there to save the portfolio...but maybe salvage the retirement in some black swan scenarios (1929 style market down 89%).

Between that, social security and the house we should hopefully still have a pre-black swan average retirement...no European river cruises but comfortable if sometimes tight.

FWIW, the S&P 500 is sitting about 65 points above the May 12th intraday low.

Bears to right of them,
Bears to left of them,
Bears in front of them
Roar’d and thunder’d;
Storm’d at with bite and claw,
Boldly they bought and well,
Into the jaws of Market,
Into the Sell off,
Bought the six hundred.

Also, so as not to neglect the more lowbrow among us who might not be up to snuff on their Tennyson, I was thinking we might consider some jokes along the lines of “yo market so red,” “yo portfolio so down,” and the like.

Yo tape so red, it gives lessons in bureaucracy to the Chinese Communist Party.

Yo market so down, when I asked how to invest in the S&P 500 my broker said “it still has to fall another hundred points before you can buy at 500.”

Yo portfolio so wack, when identity thieves hack into it they end up owing money.

Glad that I did not put in all my 401K yet..

I’m sure markets will peak every 15th and 1st…

Got 100K coming in in September - but that’s deferred comp - so that becomes sp500

BlackRock downgraded equities to neutral on a tactical six to 12-month basis, but remain overweight equities strategically. They are now neutral to every geographic region within equities, tactically.

I suppose one way to identify the bottom is when the pundits downgrade stocks to underweight. So we're still mid-crash given that they only went from overweight to neutral.

...Yeah if this is a "bounce" then we've bounced about a dozen times this year and none of it has amounted to anything, so I'm gonna need to see a whole lot more than this.

We're in a period of active price discovery. The blind euphoria of "buy everything cause it always goes up" of the past few years (barring the March 2020 blip) is receding a bit and investors are looking under the hood of what it is they are buying again. Seems like healthy market action to me.
