I mailed my paper return February 7 and received my small refund February 24.
Now that is noteworthy, very surprised to see 17 calendar day turn around on a paper return refund.
Definitely would not assume that will happen rest of 2025, or in 2026.
E-filed using HRB 2/21. Accepted same evening.
Funds received today for Fed return 3/5.
Still awaiting state.
Mod complex return due to W-2, Sch C, 1099s, with accidental overpayment estimated taxes (won’t happen again )
All you folks who have already filed...aren't you concerned that about corrected Forms 1099? I will say that I've gotten less in recent years, but I still got one in March last year. On the one hand, I'd like to file as soon as possible to avoid the slight possibility of someone fraudulently filing as me. On the other hand, I don't like doing amended tax returns. Isn't it still too early for someone with brokerage Forms 1099Consolidated with Form 1099-DIV. The most common error is reclassification of dividends from non-qualified to qualified.

If your 1099s reconcile with youfinancial statement the chances of a corrected form are quite low.
Don't trust me, look it up. https://www.irs.gov/forms-instructions-and-publications
18 days from filing to refund for me using TT. 9 days for small state refund. Both SS and the refund arrived today, which I was a bit nervous about for reasons that can't be discussed here.
Filed and accepted on February 20th using TT. Refund pending for tomorrow the 13th.
So that's 21 days. Sounds quick and it is but when comparing to years past, it's about double the time for my refund.

This speed is normal for e-file, and why I can't imagine anyone choosing to paper file.
Perhaps if they owe a lot of money and don't want the IRS to cash the paper check for as long as possible.
You can efile but pay a balance due (and estimated) any other way. Credit card with cashback >= payment processor fee is the way to go if possible IMO. That's also ca. month and half float paid on the due date v a week or two with a paper check. If CC isn't possible or too much worry about the payment processor screwing up (not impossible), a paper check gives enough float v electronic debit to be worth it for a large enough amount.
I also don't see why not efile *the return* where it's free (federal, and states which requires it like NY). I paper file NJ. It's worth it to me to save near $20 per return ($25 Turbotax charges minus ca. $5 certified mail minus a bit of office supplies) on each of several for family member/entities. Possible float on a large enough refund might change that, but hard to say practically what the difference is in speed.

I'm wondering if anyone has gotten a refund of $25,000 or more quickly? Put another way: Might there be data that shows a dollar amount where refunds to direct deposit don't happen automatically and take longer?
My daughter filed this past Saturday and got her refund on Wednesday - 4 days including the weekend. It was a very simple return and a very small refund.
My return was accepted 2/22, e-filed via TurboTax. Passed all of TurboTax's checks. I checked status today using IRS2Go and it says, "We apologize, but your return processing has been delayed beyond the normal timeframe". The 21-day normal processing period will pass tomorrow. Refund is for high 4 figures. I guess I am one of the unlucky ones.

I filed on Sunday and still don't have my return. We take the standard deduction, but do have CG and a small amount of business income. It was a large return by our standards, mid four digits.

Today IRS2Go says my refund was approved and should be deposited by March 19. Phew!
Submitted 3/3. Still just says return received. Feeling a bit jealous of those with quicker turn around times, even though my refund is not large. I'd just like to have this completed so I can forget about it until next year!

Mine was mid-4 figures taking about 3 weeks. I don't normally have sizable refunds at all, but I did this year with ACA premium tax credits. I would hardly think that's a big refund, but perhaps you're right, the amount did contribute to the delay.
There was a "mistake" in my state return (I paid estimated taxes but the state never withdrew the money, so I didn't pay estimated taxes after all). They sent me a letter telling me they were lowering my refund accordingly. I figured that would cause additional delays but State refund only came in a few days after Federal.
While our return is not especially complex, my wife does run an LLC and we had "complicated enough" investment it took Fidelity a while to send the 1099 in February.
