I think we need a RMD thread to discuss all things RMD. No asset allocation questions, no US-vs-international equity discussion, no bonds-vs-cash discussion, just RMD!
I'll start. I just did my 2024 RMD at Vanguard and Fidelity. One thing I noticed is that at Fidelity I could take the RMD from my IRA and transfer it directly to my non-retirement brokerage account. However, at Vanguard I couldn't seem to find a way to do that. I had to first sell something, and just let them put it in my settlement account. Now I do understand that if I was setting up recurring withdrawals for their automatic RMD service that they would liquidate mutual funds to do that, but I was just taking the whole 2024 RMD at once.
The monster RMD thread - discuss all things RMD here!

I know everybody is trying to avoid RMDs, or so it seems.
They are years away for me. Personally though, if nothing changes, I think my RMDs will be roughly about how much I want to spend each year. So I’m okay with it.
And I also feel certain that things will change, because they always do. So it would premature for me to either fret over them or celebrate them.

You can set it up as a one-time "whole year" withdraw that gets reinvested automatically at Vanguard. I had it set to do that Dec 15 every year on an account I help manage (just recently changed it to external transfer since money is now needed). In other words - set it up as recurring but with a single yearly payout.GaryA505 wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2025 1:56 pm I think we need a RMD thread to discuss all things RMD. I probably could have done that for the 2024 RMD but I was impatient and couldn't find it on the website. I will be setting it up for every Dec for the 2025 RMD and after.GoldStar wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2025 3:14 pmYou can set it up as a one-time "whole year" withdraw that gets reinvested automatically at Vanguard.
