Has anyone successfully logged into Free File Fillable forms for 2024 tax year?

I've used Free File Fillable from the IRS successfully for a couple of years now.

This morning, I tried to start the process for the 2024 filing year. The website is asking me to create a new account (required every tax year), and then log in.

But when I try to log in, the system just takes me back to the sign-up screen. So I can't get to the place to actually start doing anything.

Has anybody successfully started completing a return with FFF this year?

I briefly looked at the site may use it for a simple 1041 if you think it is good.

Yes, I created an account on Monday and have begun entering my data over the next few days. No issues so far. Haven't tried to sign into it today.

UPDATE: I signed in successfully just now, to verify still working for me.

Yes. I am 99% percent finished with a fairly complex MFJ return. Since not much has changed the past few years, it only took an hour to fill it in this year.

I set up the account about 3 days ago, entered all the info and e filed. This is my 5th year, and while the first year took quite awhile, once you get used to FFFF, it is quite user friendly as long as you have a good idea of what the completed forms should indicate. What was unusual is that I never received the e mail that the IRS had accepted the return, so just logged back in to Step 5 (e file) and saw that the return had been accepted.

I’ve used FFFF for the past two years, with good results. So I’m a “somewhat experienced” user.

But this year, when I try to create an account, I’m getting neither email nor text confirmations that I’ve created an account. I can’t get past a sign in screen.

I’ll let this percolate over the weekend - maybe actually read the instructions - and try to regroup next week.

As far as I remember, FFFF has never had Form 1041 available for completion. Has that changed for tax year 2024 (I haven't established my 2024 account yet)? If so, that would be nice, as I have a 1041 to file and would like to do it using e-file at no charge.

I completed a submission of my 2024 return on 1/30/25 and received an email pretty quickly saying my return was queued for transmission, and to look for an email in a couple of days saying whether it was accepted or rejected. Have not (yet) received the expected email, but the FFFF website reported that my return was accepted a day or two ago.

Exact same situation for me as I posted above. Sounds like the acceptance e mail may not be going out like it should, but as long as the site reports that the return was accepted, that's all that matters.

Exact same situation for me as I posted above. Sounds like the acceptance e mail may not be going out like it should, but as long as the site reports that the return was accepted, that's all that matters.

Just received the confirming e mail of acceptance by the IRS. It took 6 days after the e file transmitted. This is not normal, as there was likely a glitch that was corrected.

And when I click through on the link to try to report a technical problem, I get the dreaded “web page not found”. So I can’t even contact the IRS via email.

I’m likely resorting to “Plan B”. That is, a commercial tax software package.

But I’ll keep trying FFFF for a while longer.

Maybe try an "incognito window" or a different browser and disable popup blockers

Even though I didn’t think my email to IRS went through, it appears that it did. Here’s an email I received just now.

Is your browser’s pop-up blocker turned off? Do you have your autofill turned off, etc.?
· If you meet the minimum requirements, and recommended browser settings, try clearing your cache before you access the account again.
· The issue may also be your content blocking setting, having it set higher than “Standard” could cause the problem you are experiencing.
You may also try switching to a different recommended browser (Microsoft Edge or Chrome) or accessing your account from another computer.

Wow! Thanks for the information. I wonder if I'll get a response. Unfortunately, I'm one of those guys who continues doing the same thing expecting different results. So now I've got 2 emails floating around in cyberspace and at least 2 attempts at creating a new account. I used a different computer and browser so there's 2 suggestions that didn't work.

I have the same issue where I am unable to CREATE AN ACCOUNT! Just goes back to the Start Free File Fillable Forms Page. Tried several different web browsers and nothing has seemed to work yet. I have also used it for 4 years now and this is the first time having the issue. Got the 404 page as well when sending a technical problem issue form I did however receive a different response on 2/5/2025 by email stating others were getting the same issue, however they do not have a specific fix at this time. Basically seems like now resolution as of yet. Glad to know someone else is having the issue though as well. Will post here as well.

Was just able to get in. Had to VPN using a Full Tunnel. Then it finally worked. Hope this helps if able to access a Full Tunnel VPN.
