Re: [What TV Show Have You Recently Watched?]
"The Diplomat"- British version,, not the 3 season Keri Russel show from the US.
https://www.world-productions.com/produ ... e-diplomat
The 2 series were announced a couple of months apart but the various production companies couldn't' work out an agreement for one of them 2 change names. This version takes place on Barcelona and has a lead actress from Peaky Blinders.

"Appointment with Death" - 2009. Series 11, episode 4 of the long-running Poirot series starring David Suchet.
Poirot solves the murder of a cruelly tyrannical American businesswoman while on a visit to an archaeological dig in Syria. Typical late-Christie complications of adopted children and long-lost relatives.
Somewhat different from the novel, and the 1988 movie starring Peter Ustinov. Well-done, spectacular scenery, Tim Curry as Lord Boynton and the future former Countess of Grantham, Elizabeth McGovern, as Celia Westholme. Recommended as is the entire series. I have the DVDs.

I just finished Season 1 and 2 of Troppo , included with Amazon Prime. An eccentric private investigator with a criminal past recruits a disgraced ex-cop to help solve the disappearance of a Korean tech pioneer in the wilds of Far North Queensland. I liked it.
The Rig, included with Amazon Prime. A group of workers on a remote Scottish oil rig are due to return to the mainland when a mysterious fog cloaks them and supernatural forces take hold. I got lured into watching it by the large Amazon promo and couldn't make it through the first episode. Skip it.
On Call, included with Amazon Prime. A rookie and a veteran officer patrol duo in Long Beach, California, face the morality of protecting and serving a community. It reminds me of the old TV Series Adam-12 but not as good. Meh.
Silo on AppleTV+. In a ruined and toxic future, a community exists in a giant underground silo that plunges hundreds of stories deep; there, people live in a society full of regulations they believe are meant to protect them. I'm watching Season 1 and am hooked.
I've also read the sci-fi book series it's based on - Wool, Shift, Dust.

American Manhunt : OJ Simpson --Netflix.
Watched the first 2 episodes. So far I am enjoying it. The pacing of the show is perfect. Sometimes documentaries can lull you to sleep. This has not been the case with this show.

I like that you referenced the books that it was based on. Wool, Shift, Dust are now added to my list.LadyGeek wrote: Tue Feb 04, 2025 9:10 pm I just finished Season 1 and 2 of Troppo , included with Amazon Prime. I closely followed the trial when it was happening. Read so many books regarding this. Would definitely watch this.bikefish wrote: Thu Feb 06, 2025 5:05 am American Manhunt : OJ Simpson --Netflix.

Is this something that I can watch as many episodes as I want or do I only get to watch the first two episodes and have to wait another week for the next one?
I'm doing that with the latest Dexter series and not liking it! I'm used to watching long ago TV series and watching as much as I want in a sitting. Or, the ones that release all the episodes at once.
Having to wait is going back to my old TV watching days of the 60s.

Re: [What TV Show Have You Recently Watched?]
Downton Abbey, season 1. On DVD, I've got the whole series.
Watching Elizabeth McGovern in "Appointment with Death" inspired me to dig these disks out of the basement and spin them up. First impression: amazing how many deaths there are.
Series begins with the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, killing off James and Patrick Crawley, the heirs next in line for the estate. The practice of entailment makes this a succession crisis, which animates the first couple of seasons. Next up is a foreign gentleman, Kemal Panuk, who dies in the most soap opera-ish way possible, mid-stroke in Lady Mary's bed, as she puts it. Then Bates's limp-ending device is ceremonially drowned. William's mother is in a bad way, then succumbs, but the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand is on everyone's mind. Cora's surprise pregnancy re-opens the whole succession issue, which is good, because we'd forgotten about it for a bit with all the other things going on, but a tragic act of betrayal dooms the new potential heir. But don't think about it for too long, because war is declared!

Troppo was good but it appeals to people who will accept outdoor rural shows for story and acting. If you like city based shows, watch the day of the jackal or the bodyguardLadyGeek wrote: Tue Feb 04, 2025 9:10 pm I just finished Season 1 and 2 of Troppo , included with Amazon Prime. Re: [What TV Show Have You Recently Watched?]
Watched three of the four (total) episodes last night.bikefish wrote: Thu Feb 06, 2025 5:05 am American Manhunt : OJ Simpson --Netflix.
Watched the first 2 episodes. So far I am enjoying it. The pacing of the show is perfect. Sometimes documentaries can lull you to sleep. This has not been the case with this show.
So exceptional that it kept me up an hour past when I wanted to go to bed. But could not stop.
I'm guessing I read close to 10 books on this. Saw much of the trial. Did not see any of the car chase on the freeway that night. I was watching Joan Jett perform that night. So much of that was new to me. I'd frequently read about it but seeing the video was a different experience.
Each episode was so absolutely packed with content -- not a second of waste -- that it felt like each episode was much longer than 45 minutes.
It also has the added interest factor of seeing all these so familiar people from the vantage point of 30 years later and what they now look like.
Did not initially recognize Mark Fuhrman. Too bad how he got caught up in what he did in the trial. I subsequently read at least three of his books (one of them about this) and they are all quite good. An obviously highly intelligent person.
I so want to see that last episode NOW but saving it as a reward for first getting done some other things that I should be getting done.
If you were at all interested in the subject matter (particularly at the time) I give this highest recommendation.
