Resmed Airsense 11 auto [CPAP machine]

Just looking for opinions on the resmed airsense 11 machine.
Was it reliable? I’ve heard some can be difficult to use.

Is there an alternative to this machine anyone would recommend?

I have a 10, and my wife has the 11. I see no practical difference except the 11 is ever so slightly smaller. Reliable after 2 years so far.

I have had a 10 for about 2 years and it is starting to suffer the same fate as my previous IntelliPAP machine where the pump/blower thingy starts to wear out and make noise and eventually not go above a pressure of 4. I went through an IntelliPAP about once a year. I tried to warranty it but they said when they viewed the 30 day history it looked like it was working fine. I told them I stop using it when it suddenly would not go above 4. They sounded shocked when I said I couldn't use a broken CPAP for 30 days just to show them it stopped working. So now I keep a spare in the closet to swap out when that time comes.

I used the 10 for 6 years. Although it was still working fine, I bought an 11 a few weeks ago because the 10 was getting old. It has worked fine and has been very easy to use. It seems to be a little smoother and quieter than the 10. I am very happy with the new unit thus far.

I've only had it for about three months, but it seems good. The water reservoir could be larger. It's always empty by morning now that it's winter.

It's trivially easy to use.

Had Resmed 10 for six years and appears to be working as well as ever.

I have the 11 which I have been using for over 2 years, and it works great.

I also have the 10 as a backup (spare) that I used for a year.

Both work well, but the 11 has a feature that I like that ramps up as I start breathing.

I have CPAP mask wipes I use daily and once a week I put the mask, hose and reservoir in a drawer with a UV light to sterilize the gear, but to get back to your question of all the CPAP machines I have used in over 30 years, the 11 is the best, followed by the 10.

I have the 11 and have used it for over a year. Using the nasal pillows no issues so far, good for when traveling, adjustable settings, ramp up and usage app are useful. Keep it cleaned (easy) and you're good to go.

Used 10 for five years and just started using 11 (keeping 10 as backup). It is quieter than 10 and seems to work fine.

I have the nine, the 10 and now the 11. I use the nine for travel since it’s smaller. I don’t use the humidifier. The 11 works just slightly better than the 10. There are complaints that the reservoir is too small and runs out of water before the end of the night. If you don’t need the reservoir, it seems flawless. Would not consider any other brand but ResMed.

I have had the Resmed Airsense 10 with water humidifier for about 8 years. When it dies, I won’t hesitate to buy the Airsense 11. I have had a negative experience only with a Philips cpap. I purchased Philips travel cpap, and within 5 months they issued a voluntary recall and warned not to use the device while they worked on a resolution. They dragged it out for 5 years. In the meantime, I bought the Resmed mini cpap for travel and camping, and as a temporary backup cpap, if needed. Anyways, I think Resmed makes a really good cpap machine.

Does this mysterious "end of life" message appear on the CPAP's display, or on the app? I have been using CPAPs for 12 years and have never heard of such a message.

There's a message about the blower motor's lifetime being exceeded after a certain number of hours. It displays on the unit itself, but doesn't impact the usability of the device. Mine was fine for a while after starting to get that message until I eventually got the 11. No complaints on either the 10 or 11 here.

I used the 10 for a long time (7 years+ maybe?) and then one day it suddenly became loud. Got an 11 which works basically the same as the 10, perhaps a bit quieter and smaller when packed up. No complaints. Maybe I don’t humidify much, but I only fill reservoir half way and always have some water left. If it runs out of water, it does stink and wakes me up, so I overfill.

I have an 11. Completely reliable after almost 2 years. Very quiet. Cradle mask. Took me a month or so to get used to using a CPAP. I have no personal experience with other models or brands. I have a couple of friends who like their Phillips Dreamstation (sp?) and AirSense 10.

I'm using a Philips Respironics Dreamstation 2 which will be up for replacement in a little over a year. My three CPAP machines so far have all been Philips Respironics. The first one, a System One, was definitely losing either pressure or air volume after five years, maybe hardening seals or something, so I'm inclined to believe the "five-year life" statements. I have no complaints personally but I have lost some confidence in Philips.

Has anyone switched from Philips Respironics to Resmed and have any general, helpful remarks on such a transition?

I'm on Medicare with a supp, cost has been fully covered.

Even if your insurance covers it, you might want to check a CPAP store if you have one available (obviously depending on deductible,etc). I discovered a few years ago that the CPAP store near me sold the Resmesd Airsense 10 for under $1000 and I paid like $1400 with insurance.

I switched from the Philips Dreamstation 2 to the Resmed Airsense 11 without any problems. I’m still able to use the Philips Dreamwear mask with nasal cushion as that’s the type of mask I prefer. So I feel like I have the best of both worlds. One thing I like about the Resmed is that there is only a single disposable filter, compared to the Dreamstation, which has 2 separate filters. It’s easier to change out the filter on the Resmed. The Philips has two filters, one disposable and an additional filter that has to be cleaned regularly and replaced every 6 months, which is a clunkier setup IMO.

I found that at the settings I use, the humidifiers for both machines run out of water if I sleep longer than 7 hours. Since I usually log between 6 to 6-1/2 hours, it’s not usually a problem.

One Resmed 10 was good for 7 years a relative had. Mine started making the wheezing noise from the blower motor after 2 years 3 months. 2 year warranty. I purchased an aftermarket motor for $92. Followed a youtube video to replace it. Pretty easy 45 minute job. Could do the next one in half the time. I think some run into this issue on some of these. Seems fine with the new blower motor assy. I have seen no complaints of this issue with the 11 and it uses a completely different motor/blower assembly.

My ResMed AirSense 10 does, you can see your data on https://myair.resmed.com/ (U.S. site).

I don't use that information but yes, my pulmonologist (or rather his PA) can access the data without any trouble.

I have obstructed sinuses and need to use a full face chuck Yeager mask. I also have an occasional minor central apnea (meaning my nervous system stops my breathing.) I couldn’t get used to the constant pressure cpap the mask was hovering off my face and not letting me exhale and I felt like I was choking. Dr prescribed a bi-pap, the aircurve 10 vauto. Instant relief, unbelievably wonderful it has two pressures so detects and lets me exhale. I was impressed and loaned it to my father who was also really impressed.

Many people aren’t aware but if you’re having any trouble exhaling with a constant pressure device the bi-pap exists.

I’m tempted to buy myself a spare since the aircurve 10 are half off right now. Only difference is you set two pressures instead of one.

Wife has used the Resmed 11 for about a year now. One difficulty she had was in getting the water tray fully in. She found a recommendation to hold the button down on it while inserting the tray with the machine on which has worked for her. She also notes that she was told to not fully fill the water tray as it might splash into the motor area and void warranty.
