How does Portfolio Visualizer work with Target Funds any way?
How does Portfolio Visualizer work with Target Funds any way?
Portfolio Visualizer allows you to use ticker instead of assset classes. I am a bit dubious of this. Many funds might not have a long enough history. Secondly, I would think something like target fund would thrown off the return since their allocation changes. The estimating using their previous return probably won't be accurate.

It just shows you what the past return was. It’s no different than a managed fund whose allocation changes. There’s nothing dubious at all.

The issue is that the allocation gets more conservative, so projectiions in the future will be way off the further you go.Brianmcg321 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2024 11:29 am It just shows you what the past return was. Using historical results to predict the future doesn't make sense to begin with. In my opinion, looking at historical results isn't useful. I've also stated many times that attempting to predict the future is a waste of time.gavinsiu wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2024 1:34 pmThe issue is that the allocation gets more conservative, so projectiions in the future will be way off the further you go.Brianmcg321 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2024 11:29 am It just shows you what the past return was. When you discover that you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount.

Caveat backtestor.
(Is there a Latin word for backtester?)
