She is definitely on my list of top female vocalists.
Since I praised it so highly ....here is available information on show. When / where it was. Setlist. Performers.

Many well known performers! No wonder why she and the band sound so great.

I see Nylon & Steel - Guitar Duets in Apple. Listening to that now. Di Meola, Morse, and other masters in a more modern mix.
Thanks. Among classical guitarists I’m familiar with Christopher Parkening and Andres Segovia, both of whom I’ve seen in concert.
Must have been in the 90's?

I saw Paco De Lucia around 2010. The flamenco guitar is similar, but most definitely a different branch of the guitar tree.

At those ages I would assume that they would have lost some finger dexterity and strength that they'd had compared to when they were younger? Therefore, they had to do things differently to compensate?

Nicolas took me down memory lane with the recollection of seeing Christopher Parkening and Andres Segovia in concert. I also saw both of them in concert at the Ambassador Auditorium in Pasadena when it was still a well-known concert venue. I recall Segovia being able to shuffle (very slowly) on stage, I want to say in the early 1980s a few years before he died. I saw Parkening a few years later, maybe even in the early 1990s? Two virtuosos in the field.

Only Segovia was aged when I saw him, Parkening was still young in the 80s (born December 14, 1947). He studied under Segovia. Here he talks about the master: https://youtu.be/pvqitrUbVNk?si=O31_Xby5OYRVmAKv

Since Segovia’s concert was 43-1/2 years ago I don’t remember much about it. I do remember him shuffling onstage (as Columbia85 also recalled, above) and carrying his guitar by the neck with one hand. How he differed from his earlier career I had nothing to compare it to, having only seen him that one time.

Segovia was born 1893 much earlier than Paco DeLucia 1947. Parkening 1947 also.

Segovia continued to perform but had frequent lapses and mistakes when he played. He played simple studies and even those were challenging.

Parkening dropped out of touring after achieving legendary status as Segovia's heir. He's an academic now.

Paco was 65 when I saw him. Since it was a flamenco show, you wouldn't really perceive any loss of precision.

As far as adjustments because of aging, those definitely occur. But the mind and body break down. Segovia kept selling out, as he was a legend, and the performance mattered little to the audience.

I saw Johnny Winter perform in a highly debilitated state. Far, far, far from being when I'd seen him at least 12 times before. I almost felt guilty being there to watch and that whoever was responsible should not have allowed him to be on stage. But just as I was writing that I realized that Johnny Winter was the ultimate decider. Therefore, he was performing because he wanted to.

I'd not have been there. I'm critical if my favorites do not perform to their standards I've prior seen before.

I can still remember walking into a music store in Cambridge, MA, in 1999, 25 years ago.

They were playing the latest Johnny Cash record and it was completely atrocious. They were only playing it because it was Johnny Cash. If some unknown had performed the exactly the same, they'd have stopped playing it after listening to the first 10 seconds of it.

That should not be. The music should be solely judged on its quality itself, not who is creating it.

I was going to first respond that that was okay because I'd be hearing it through computer speakers but now I think I will listen to it via headphones.

LOVE Dickie Betts.

Saw him twice as part of original Allman Brothers (1970, 1971).

Saw him three or four times as part of his own band (a few times with his son also being in the band as a guitarist).

Met him briefly when after one of the shows my friend wanted to get a pick from him so we went on his tour bus.

A long time ago when I'd listen to that iconic 1970 Live at the Fillmore record ... I could tell whether it was him or Duane Allman playing. Not today but maybe I could teach myself again.

The Parting Glass — The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem (1959)

Restless Farewell — Bob Dylan (1964)

Frank Sinatra specially requested Dylan to sing this song at his 80th birthday:

From the title that seems like some form of greatest hits recording?

What is the general time range between when a first recording is released and then subsequently some years later, we get the first greatest hits recording?

Based upon podcast recommendations in another topic in this forum I found out about 100's of podcasts.

This is the first one I decided to listen to:

A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/a ... 1437402802

It started in 2018 with there now being 238 podcasts in total.

Yesterday I listened to all the 2018 podcasts -- 13 of them. 225 to go!

They are each about 25 minutes.

Today I have available ears from about 10 AM to noon so will be able to listen to another 4.

Initially I was just going to listen to the ones that were about songs I like. But I decided to start at the beginning and see what happens.

Overall, I'd grade it a B.

The narrator has a HUGE ego as he has a terrible voice and if he wanted a better quality product he would have used someone else to speak it. It's sometimes difficult to understand him. Also, another example of his huge ego is him spending way too much time talking about the songs rather than having us listen to the songs [This was also a major, major problem with Ken Burns's 1994 Baseball series as he subjected us to watching a lot of old, old, old people talking rather than letting us hear them talk over showing us actual baseball content.). I'm in the section -- now in the 50s -- where I've never heard many of the songs he is presenting to us so it would have been better to have heard more of the songs rather than just snippets of them.

I do not agree with all the generalized assertions that he makes.

Interesting tune from a group led by Ahmed Abdul-Malik - blend of jazz and middle eastern flavors. I like hearing the non-Western instruments:

Excellent song / record.

I think he is one of the most underrated in the rock world. Is he in the Hall of Fame? He certainly should be in it ahead of all of those who never played a single note of rock and roll!

Look it up on YouTube, 1000 musicians playing well known pieces live. It’s pretty impressive.
Trying this one:

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Rockin'1000 That's Live Official

Within less than 20 seconds I could see that " It’s pretty impressive." is a HUGE understatement! I WILL be having more of these on!

But how do the economics work for 1,000 musicians!!?? How do they practice? How often??!!
Holy c.. How did I not know these existed - what a blast that looks to be. Thx for the link as now listening thru a few of them.

Always liked that song. They did an excellent version of it.

I've lost track. How many of Peter, Paul, and Mary are still with us?

It's a great song. I just never knew it was written by John Denver — a great songwriter. I remember hearing the PP&M version. Very nice rendition by Lake Street Dive, and a trio I never heard before, Tiny Habits.

Peter and Paul are still around, per Wikipedia. We lost Mary in 2009. She was a CT resident, I think.

The PPM version was a personal favorite in my graduate school days, along with the Leonard Cohen, Judy Collins version of That's No Way to Say Goodbye. I did monthly trips between by GFs Uni and my Uni many times by plane, or car. The lyrics of both fit the moments. Both are still in my fave list so so many years later.

I recognized the lead singer woman (Vilray?) from Lake Street Dive. Of the other three vocalists and other three musicians who was in which band? I did recognize the Lake Street Dive bass player.

For my taste that was the superior Fleetwood Mac version.

Absolutely! They were so good. I never listen to the later incarnation.

I do like the later version's hit song where they have that superb guitar solo in the middle. Go Your Own way?

That was just awesome. Thanks. Also thanks for the album. Not sure I could listen to it all the way through, but it's got some great tunes on it.

Just a bit later, Future Games is a favorite of mine. Still with Kirwan, Green had left, but Christine McVie adds a whole lot...

That's Rachael Price you're thinking of. She has a side gig singing (mostly jazz?) with a guy named Vilray. The other instrumentalists are in LSD. The three other singers are a trio called Tiny Habits, who hail from the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

I love the band LSD, though I don't much care for the stuff they've been playing lately. They've changed considerably.
