ideas for super low budget adult Halloween costume?

Post by biscuit5 »

Any creative ideas for a super low budget adult (male) Halloween costume? 🎃

Preferably using common household items - don't want to go to store and spend $$$$ on something used 1x per year or that gets tossed.

Simple is good. Already looked on Google, many ideas required items few would have at home.

1. Ghost: A classic! Just take an old white sheet, cut out eye holes, and you’re good to go. You can add a spooky effect by carrying a flashlight under the sheet.

2. Mummy: Use toilet paper, white fabric strips, or old bandages to wrap yourself up. Make sure to leave space to breathe and move comfortably.

3. Zombie: Tear up some old clothes, smudge them with dirt, and apply some basic makeup with household items like flour (for pale skin), eyeliner (for scars), and fake blood made from red food coloring or ketchup.

4. "Tourist": Wear a Hawaiian shirt, shorts, sunglasses, and carry a camera or map. You can add a fanny pack and socks with sandals for extra flair.

5. Cereal Killer: Tape mini cereal boxes to an old shirt and stab plastic utensils into them. Add some red food coloring or ketchup for a "bloody" effect.

6. Bag of Trash: Use a large black trash bag, cut arm and head holes, and fill it with crumpled paper or plastic bottles. Bonus: Tie an old piece of rope or string around your waist as a "twist-tie."

7. Static Cling: Dress in black and stick random items to yourself using safety pins or tape (e.g., socks, small pieces of fabric, or paper). This creates the effect of clothes that got stuck in static cling after laundry.

8. Superhero: Make a cape out of a bedsheet or old blanket. Use markers or cut-out paper to design your own superhero symbol, and attach it to a plain shirt. You can also make a mask out of cardboard or paper.

9. Old Man: Use baby powder in your hair to create a gray effect. Put on glasses, a sweater vest, and carry a cane or walking stick (you can even make one out of a broom handle).

10. Survivor: Wear some outdoor or camping gear like a backpack, water bottle, and old boots. Smudge dirt on your face and clothes to look like you’ve been through an adventure.

These costumes are easy to assemble with items most people already have at home, making them fun and budget-friendly!

Good question!

Are there time and effort constraints too? Would you be willing to spend a few hours assembling something? A whole day?

Also, does it need to be comfortable or easy to move around in a crowded room? For example, there are a number of easy costumes if you are willing to wear a large box, but it’s pretty clumsy

For example, you could go as a wrapped gift by wearing a big box wrapped in wrapping paper with a big bow. Alternatively, you could wear the box a generator or chopsaw came in and be that.

Or a moving box and just say “going places”.

These are all pretty uncomfortable for a whole evening.

Appreciate the input from people. Thank you.

Costume should be comfortable and somewhat removeable/accessible (to use restroom etc), and yes if around people not a costume that limits movement etc.

Quicker assembly is good.

Medical doctor. Buy a white lab coat (less than $20 on Amazon). Wear with some khakis, shirt and tie.

If you feel like splurging, you can get a cheap stethoscope, pen flashlight, and clipboard.

Shaun from Shaun of the dead. White shirt, red tie. A cricket bat helps but isn’t required.

Do you have a trench coat and sunglasses? Dozens of options here.

If you have khaki, black, or navy chinos and a dress shirt, add some shiny sunglasses, a badge, a helmet and go as - a cop, a game warden, anything official. Just need some props. Or, add an orange vest and go as - an inspector? Piece of cardboard with "Go Ceiling" on it, and be a ceiling fan.... borrow a scout uniform and go as a Boy Scout.... Flannel shirt, jeans, and an old pie pan- spray glue, a little gravel and gold paint and you are a gold miner! Formal wear, a baton and sheet music = conductor! Think role play in a different career and just accessorize regular clothes, maybe a cap.

If you are a fan of the old TV show, " The Office," you could go as 3-hole punch Jim.

Just need a button-down shirt, tie, slacks, belt, 3 circular pieces of paper, and some tape.

Squirt red food coloring randomly over an old white shirt and raggedy jeans. Draw some frankenstein-like stitches on your face with black marker. Smear lipstick around your mouth, mostly in one corner and extending along your jaw. Apply black liquid eyeliner all around your eye, badly, and smear it before it dries.

Go buy some inexpensive scrubs and a "hat" if you want.

Then wear the scrubs around the house for the next 12 months...

Red t-ehirt with a small white "something" on the left upper chest. (Pin a small piece of paper.)

Regular medium tan chinos.

Voila: "Jake From State Farm"

https://www.google.com/search?client=sa ... =734&dpr=2

(okay, write "State Farm" on that little piece of paper)
Or get one of those "Hello, I'm __________" sticky things, and put "Jake From State Farm" so no one has to spend any time thinking about it. :happy

Comfy, easy to use facilities, inexpensivve (borrow the clothing if necessary)

ETA: If you have a partner, they can put on white pants, get a cheap white lab coat, aand a medium length dark wig if needed, ann you'll both be:
Jake From State Farm & Flo From Pogressive.

A few I have done in the past:

1. Get a postage stamp, or print out a larger image of a postage stamp on adhesive paper. stick it on your forehead, and go as "First Class Male".

2. Get a black shirt, white electrical tape, and a plastic fork. Place the tape vertically on the shirt, in sections, like a highway lane marking. Then put a fork under one of the sections. You are now a "Fork in the Road".

3. If you will be with a partner, one of you dress in all green (including a wig if you can find a cheap one), the other wears a shirt with the word ENVY on it ( you can use tape to form the word). Then the two of you are "Green with Envy".

Yeah ok, "super low budget adult" right. One might also go as streaker or flasher if you have a trench coat.

Streaker will probably get you arrested so do the flasher thing but wear a swimsuit and hang a sign inside the coat that says "what did you expect?" or a picture of some jewels or something funny like that. But it's still a little edgy so tread carefully. That's me age 19.

Today though, I would go as a financial advisor and try to sell people on 1% or 1.5% AUM and put them into high priced variable annuities that you ultimately have to pay marginal income rates on. Just hope no real financial advisors are invited or they will be upset at your unfair characterization. I mean 'real' financial advisors wouldn't do that right!

Depends a lot on what your wardrobe look like right now and what your friends or family have that can be borrowed. Also your looks it is easier to play on something related or in theme with your looks
Ken
Clark Kent
Really going as any famous man
Cowboy
Sports player ( football baseball whatever)
Social climber (wear suit or tux and climbing gear)
How about dressing up as an Olympic judge and carry a piece of paper with a large 10 (bonus great hit on someone potential)
You can wear green get some green paper and glue flags with paper and cheap skewers be green flag guy.
You could wear the most generic outfit you own and get a stick on name badge write "regular guy" on it

That one sounds really fun if you can manage to stay away from rating people's looks. Even if you didn't like their costume, could still find a reason to rate a 10 (ok you don't like the slasher with a fake victim but give them a 10 for not having a real victim etc, Chicago Bears costume ... hate the team but NFL related 10). I love it.

If you already take karate or martial arts, or used to, wear your karate "gi".
If the children also were in martial arts, make it a family "costume".

Get a "bee" long costume shirt, yellow with striped, bee glasses, and bee headstock feelers.
You can use this every year. It's hilarious. DW had a "flower" costume.

If you are older and from the 60's, and still have some "hippie" clothes, put together a hippie outfit. Tie dye shirt, leather clog sandals, big rose colored glasses, leather cross body strap carry bag or tie did cloth bag. DW and I used this many times, both as 60's hippies.
We once showed up to a 60's "hop" as hippies because the advertisement "said 60's" Duh??? Everyone else came as "50"s hop doo wop costumes. We really stood out. Same as it was back in the 60/70's. Hippies were outsiders. Peace.
Carry and acoustic guitar on a strap. Play and sing Bob Dylan.

50's is easy. White undershirt. Cigarette pack rolled up in the sleeve. Grease back hair. Dark glasses. Jeans. Boots. Think..John Travolta. Vinnie. Happy Days.

Go as a lady, or old lady; wig, makeup, earrings, dress, nylons. Have a cane and walk unsteady. Irritate people. "Hey sonny"...

wow, some interesting ideas here.

I had a buddy years back spend in excess of $1000 on a Johnny Depp pirate costume. Wore it "once". 👎

Part of the equation is comfortable - as if you're in it for hours on end and its hot or scratchy :( or requires tons of props you have to carry = hassle.

Appreciate the input.
