Business checking scam account

Post by andyandyandy »

Hi all

I got a call today saying they are calling from https://www.bluevine.com/ regarding a business checking account.
I do have business and they knew name but I did not open any checking account.
It was 201 area code and was NOT a call from different country (perfect American accent).

I told we did not open any account. They say there is no financial transaction or account linked yet. I told them to note as a fraudulent activity.
Their email was incorrect but not sure how they got personal phone numbers.

I have unique passwords and 2 factors on. What other precautions should I take?
Appreciate!

Were they trying to get a recording of your voice to take further action? I’d contact the security office at the bank & discuss it with them.

Someone unexpectedly called you and "claimed" they were from a bank that you do not use?

That could be a major warning sign. IF that's what happened, you shouldn't have given them *any* information, whether to do or do not have XYZ account, etc.
Or do you have an account there?

This signature is a placebo. You are in the control group.

K - What steps I can take?
I have 2 factors and general precautions.

Is there a way to get all my business bank account or credit cards?
Is there a credit freeze for businesses too?

Do be aware that "business" accounts do not have the same 'fraud refund protections' that personal accounts have. Be quickly proactive to any actual non-authorized transactions.

Should I call Bluevine to flag/alert about this?

1. Don’t answer inbound calls from numbers you know, even if the caller ID looks authoritative. They will leave a message or not, or mail a letter if it is something major and legit and they can’t reach you.

2. Never give out any information, confirm or deny anything to an unknown party by phone (or email). If you didn’t initiate the call, default to assuming it is fraudulent.

One more thing in this vein… never answer your door unless you know who is knocking/ringing. Don’t break the security of your house before determining whether it is safe or not.
