I just think overkill. I doubt the Beatles wanted us to analyze that deep; if so, the music would have been more somber, right?

Oh, I hear you! And I totally agree. Not all lyrics have the same significance, that's for sure. But even on some songs where the lyrics are not at all what attracts me, I often struggle to interpret them. Neil's Cortex the Killer is a great example. I love that song. Love the guitar work, the whole band, and even the images the lyrics create. But I have never for the life of me been able to figure out what the hell the song is really about. That bit that comes in at the end, "I know she's living there, and she loves me to this day..." what the?? My own clumsy reading of that sudden revelation is that everything that preceded it just paints the picture of an idealized life, proud, free and noble, that represents how he might feel about his former life with his old flame. But who knows? There's a whole lot of historic detail that seems more important than just mood setting. Just watching Amy Shafer struggle with the mysterious lyrics is reassuring to me, that I'm not alone in being completely lost.roamingzebra wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 7:03 pmOne of the funniest lyrics analysis I've heard from Amy was for "She Loves You" by the Beatles. Yeah, kind of before my time. I'll put it this way, I knew Traffic pretty well years before I knew who the Spencer Davis Group was. I guess I did know a couple of their big hits from the 60s — which are awesome — but just from the radio and without knowing the band's name.yankees60 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 7:50 pmDo you not remember him in the Spencer Davis Group with him playing keyboards? Re: What are you listening to now
A friend asked me to go this tonight:
https://sheatheater.org/d/20053/Shea-Pr ... n-Hallers-
Went to YouTube to listen to each to see if I wanted to see them. Will see them.
But as soon as the second song ended this came on:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jz2EOmH3Dd0
The Rolling Stones, Sympathy For The Devil - A Classical Musician’s First Listen and Reaction
Which, of course, I need to listen to!
As usual, love all her expressiveness and immense detail. She gets about 1,000 times out of the listen than I ever did! I've only been listening the song for about 56 years!

The tree trimmers ($1,600) are coming today. My insurance company refused to insure my home unless the electric panel was upgraded ($4,500). I wasn’t going to walk, but still having after affects from our flu/covid shots, walking makes me feel better. So, I put on The Beach Boys greatest hits. They are really fun to listen and walk to. The 60s was an incredible time for music, so much innovation. Shaka. Aloha.

I believe that Steven Tyler is the biological father of actress Liv Tyler. Todd Rundren was married to Liv Tyler's mother and is her step father.

Yesterday I stated that I'd love for her to do this. Was pleasantly surprised to see today that she has already done it. It was the number 1 requested song for her to do. She also did a second part on it, which I'm soon about to hear once this one is over.

Not sure about all their records. They had a few comeback / reunion efforts over the years.
One of my favorites is Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1c0eX8F ... SvVysc9SIT. Best enjoyed on headphones
Produced by David Briggs who also produced many of Neil Young & Crazy Horse's albums.

Now on Beatles Revolver.

Today’s walk around the house I serenaded my better half to music from long ago and far, far away. Back then and in various altered states, Electric Ladyland by the Jimi Hendrix Experience came out in 1968. I bought the double side album in about 1970. It was very expensive.
And the Gods Made Love
Have You Ever Been
Voodoo Chile
Little Miss Strange
All Along the Watchtower
Among others
One of my favorite albums back in the day. It is rather hard on the ears today (in their current state). After I graduated in 73, I found myself on a little island in the Pacific where I dropped out of the flower power scene and recovered my sanity watching the blues, greens, browns and nightly gorgeous sunsets. The winds fluttering through the coconut fronds. Far out, man….

It’s a boy, Mrs. Walker. It’s a boy.
Ten years old with thoughts as bold as thoughts can be
If your child ain’t all he could be now: this girl could put him right
(Underture)
Ever since I was a young boy, I’ve played the silver ball
Tommy can you hear me? Can you feel me near you? Tommy can you see me? Can I help to cheer you?
I’m free, I’m free and freedom tastes of reality
My name is Tommy and I became aware this year
We’re not gonna take it, never did and never will
See me, feel me, touch me, heal me
Walking around my home today, we listened Tommy by The Who. This is another double sided album. My cd was expensive and the recording was botched during Pinball Wizard. Tommy made the walk go very fast. Uncle Ernie was a very bad man.

But my first day at college I borrowed it from someone and listened to it in its entirety. I wonder how many more times I have listened to it since in the last 55 years?
I think I've seen the movie Woodstock 12-15 times.

Never knew one of my favorite vocalists, Anastacia, was on BBC's "Strictly Come Dancing".
Not surprised she can dance.
Anastacia & Brendan Cole Cha Cha to 'Lady Marmalade' (2016)

Re: What are you listening to now
The last couple of days around the house, we listened to two albums that summed up my life at two very different times. First, we listened to Judy Collins’ wildflowers. This was an album I heard from the ladies on my floor who moved in sophomore year. It was amazing to be surrounded by women. I was a mountain hiker and sometime rock climber and Michael from Mountains fit right in. I also liked the Leonard Cohen songs: Sisters of Mercy, Priests and Hey, That’s No Way to Say Goodbye. Since you Asked and Albatross by Collins, have been with me over the years. The Song for Old Lovers and a Ballata of Francesco Landini and Since You Asked and Both Sides Now filled out what I find to be a greatest hits album. This time from 1968 to 1977 was a period of great adventure and intense loneliness for me.
The second album was Olomana’s "Seabird’’. I got this album in Hawaii during my graduate school days. I took my new girlfriend to see them in the Blaisdell Hotel on Fort Street. My roommate tagged along. It had a 2 drink minimum and none of us drank so Shirley Temples all around. It was just Jerry Santos , Robert Beaumont and a hula dancer. It was the most romantic 2 nights of my life even with my roommate being there. They sang the entire Seabird album. My loneliness was ending and I didn’t even know it. A new, final adventure was beginning.
Apologies if I bore you with my reminiscences.

To the contrary. Just finished reading another post of yours in a different topic. My immediate response was how interesting all you write is!

Caedmon (self-titled) Sounds something like Pentangle

Still love their sound. Caedmon is from the same era, and there are others. I love the psychedelic English folk music. Now listening to Folkal Point and Midwinter
