DCA or Lump?

Post by RetireGuy »

Hi BH Community,

I know we don’t want to time the market, but would you make an exception at these valuations with a large lump sum that has been on the sidelines (cash) for years? I missed a great run up, of course, but dollar cost averaging feels right, but clearly what do I know :). If DCA is ok, how would you approach it (timeline)? Thank you all as always!

I'd set an asset allocation and stick to it based on your risk tolerance and goal for the funds, not play market timing games.

Hello OP,
You absolutely need to read livesoft's post/link above.

Thank you for the chuckle, livesoft…I should have guessed it will play out like that. I will just lump sum it and hope for the best based on a separate 10-year ladder to cover expenses. Thanks again!
