Guess I probably spun the Days of Future Passed album 1000 times or more on my PL 12-D with a cheap Stanton cartridge, while in my 6th floor dorm room....

Every now and again I like to watch this video. It's the ultimate party. People of all ages -- including the orchestra -- having pure fun.

This morning during the romp around the inn we listened to some R and B by Ben E. King. I used to get a little chided in high school because I liked oldies but goodies. My significant follower was impressed with Mr. King’s voice as he sang:
Spanish Harlem
Stand by Me
Dream Lover
Save the Last Dance for Me
The last song above reminds me of a story about my grandfather. He would take us out for seafood on Friday nights. We would go to a restaurant and he would give me a quarter to play 3 songs in the juke box. I always had to play Save The Last Dance for Me. My grandfather was a noted ballroom dancer attracting all the ladies. After getting thrown out of Downtown in Melrose for suggestive dancing at around 13 (I must have doing some Elvis the Pelvis moves), I hated dancing ever since. My whole family were dancers! I grew to like climbing mountains 🏔️. Cheers and aloha.🤙

lol, you can do both.

Speaking of which, Bobby Banas passed away in July of this year at age 90. He was the 1960's equivalent of Michael Jackson in the amazing precision of his moves. I wonder if the two ever met.

I wasn’t going to walk around the house today, but changed my mind. It’s hard to get up some days. Oh woe is me!😇 Anyway, off we went listening to The Four Seasons composed by the Red Priest Antonio Vivaldi. Bogleheads, I bought this cd at the Dollar Store for a buck. They had lots of classical cds and bought all I could even though I didn’t know most of the composers. I got a book out of the library about top composers and their compositions.
Once in Saudi Arabia I had to deliver a package for a teacher to his wife who lived across from us. I was invited in and some beautiful music was playing and I asked what it was . She said it was Bach, Baroque music. She must have thought I was an American simpleton, but her introduction of Mr. Bach to me was eventful when I returned to the States as I bought as much Baroque music as I could afford at the Dollar Store. Cheers and aloha! 🤙

Listening to Denver's Leaving on a Jet Plane. In the late 60s I was hooked on the Peter Paul & Mary version. There's a story behind that I won't reveal here! Not sure I then even knew it was a John Denver song or had heard it.

I have many Association records which were listened by me many times.

In the late 70s someone told me she'd seen them live and that they were excellent. I'd never heard of them playing live anywhere.

I could listen to that all day. (And I have at times).

I've listened to Mendes' more hard-core Brazilian stuff based on the Black Orpheus theme, but I prefer this more commercialized version of music. I don't, however, care for the English language (Beatles) songs that he and Brazil 66 did.

Not sure if you ever saw/heard the version of Mas Que Nada with the Black-Eyed Peas. I like it when an artist can occasionally modernize themselves.

LOL, those earrings look so heavy! Such a classic tune.

On the jazz radio station today the DJ said there is also a Brasil '77 album with the same group. I listed to clips of it but I prefer the Brasil '66 album.

I no longer remember the names of the real hardcore stuff, but it was done before he (Sergio Mendes) became famous in the US.

But for an example of more "serious" music as compared to the more commercial, this is a good one. I used to have the CD.

Sergio Mendes & Brasil '65 - In Person At El Matador

I'd recommend starting with "The Black Orpheus Medly". It goes through a range of tempos...starting slow and soft then really getting into those Carnival Brazilian rhythms.

Some of the other songs include some acoustic guitar played by one of the women, Note that this is Brasil '65 and not sure if the same women were also in Brasil '66 (never researched tat far).

For the last couple of days we are serenading around the home listening to Beethoven’s Ninth. To me it is a rather mystical experience. It is so uplifting. We’ll probably be listening to all 9 symphonies over the coming week. Cheers and aloha. Wicked right on.
BTW, the piece is performed by the New York Philharmonic conducted by Leonard Bernstein.

Oh no. I am quite a fan. Loved his very early music in the 60s and 70s. I also loved more recent collaborations, in particular “Brasileiro” with Carlinhos Brown:

https://open.spotify.com/album/09HBh8LH ... -C7wexyEuA

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brasileiro

I was lucky to see him perform a couple of years ago north of Boston. He was probably 81 and seemed to just love performing live.

Another favorite old one, so full of hope and optimism: “Horizonte Aberto”:

RIP Sergio Mendes :(
Oh no. I am quite a fan. Loved his very early music in the 60s and 70s. I also loved more recent collaborations, in particular “Brasileiro” with Carlinhos Brown:

I was lucky to see him perform a couple of years ago north of Boston. He was probably 81 and seemed to just love performing live.

Another favorite old one, so full of hope and optimism: “Horizonte Aberto”:

Nice album. I've been listening on Apple Music. The first couple of tracks have a lot of drums/rhythmic. I like it. I think music will help the brain neurons stay active! :beer

American version of Rubber Soul is my all-time favorite Beatles record.
