I'm again working my way through Homicide: Life on the Streets. This is probably at least my fourth time through, including the original run. This time on Peacock.

I just have to finish the episode I'm watching right now, and Crosetti is up next! My favorite TV series drama episode by far!

So happy to see this streaming. I was surprised to learn that it has never streamed before this week! Such fond memories of this show. If you've not seen it, highly recommended if you like police procedurals. Not the most uplifting of shows.

My memory had not even gotten that far yet, but now I'm looking forward to it.

I just finished Crosetti and am bawling. Again. I wish I could ride off in a '59 Caddy. My dad had one--but not like that one, of course.

ETA: The music sound track is just now beginning to approach the quality I remembered.

ETA2: Cashmere overcoats are now stuck in my head. Thanks a lot!

We just watched what seems to have been the very first of the "Columbo" episodes that included Peter Falk.

We were surprised at the end to notice two big names involved (besides Peter Falk):
Stephen Spielberg and Steven Bochco.

We're watching (for the 1st time) based on recommends here at BH. I think we watched s1e3 last night. So I do recognize the Adena Watson reference.

I like the cast and the dialog, but the pacing is taking some getting used to. Law & Order it's not.

My wife hasn’t seen The Rockford Files nor The Streets of San Francisco. I tried ordering them from my library but to no avail. Are these available on any streaming programs like Netflix and Amazon? Thanks in advance. I could buy the complete sets on Amazon, but that would be unBogle like.

DW and I found it a bit boring and will not continue after second episode.

Other opinions?

My wife and I have to curtail watching any show with animals on it (our dogs bark at the screen), so maybe we got lucky this time :D

ETA; interesting factoid: this wasn’t an issue with 60hz refresh rates, as dogs apparently “see” that as a strobe effect. With 120hz refresh rates, they can “see” the scene.

Our dog loves to watch "On Patrol Live". He must want to be an LEO like his dad. He constantly watches the show and turns his head to watch the action, especially if there's a police K-9 unit. None of our other dogs paid attention to the TV, but Kobe is an avid viewer. He always knows when a dramatic scene in a show is about to commence.

Just finished all 3 seasons of Loudermilk streaming on Netflix. I have been a fan of Ron Livingston ever since I saw him in Office Space and I enjoyed this quirky dark comedy. I hope they get a season 4.

I just finished the two seasons of "Unstable" on Netflix. It stars Rob Lowe and his real-life son, John Owen Lowe. Rob plays an excentric and brilliant tech billionaire who is slightly losing it with erratic behavior at home and work after loss of his spouse. Rob does an excellent job on this role and really embraces it to the point of hilarity. I recommend it.

Two others I've watched are "The Walking Dead" and "The Bates Motel". I thought those sounded like they would be really stupid but both were surprisingly good.
I really enjoyed The Walking Dead for several seasons, by virtue of the situation and how people adapt to overcome (huge fan of Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus & Lauren Cohen), but the show went too far with introduction of the Character - Negan. Don't get me wrong, I understand that The Walking Dead is a violent show and needed to somewhat follow the Comic, but the Negan character went beyond violent and cruelty to others to sadistic and inhuman. Not my idea of entertainment (not a shot at you :happy ). I may go back and continue but haven't gotten to the point of nothing else to watch yet. :beer

MI-5

The series follow a team of British agents in the security intelligence service. A counterterrorism group protecting the UK from threats to national security.

If you are interested in the Spy vs Spy double agent genre, this is a good one. We enjoyed it.

Another version of it was titled [Spooks].

We finished Our Mutual Friend by Charles Dickens. I believe this was his last novel. It is rather slow paced with adequate acting. It has 4 1 1/2 hour episodes. We got this from the library.

I remember seeing a few episodes of this when it was on broadcast, must have been 1965. I was young enough that what impressed me was Bruce the pet ocelot! This was Aaron Spelling's attempt to reproduce the success of "The Avengers"; he even tried to hire Honor Blackman, who played Cathy Gale on "The Avengers", to play Honey, but she turned him down. I see the full run of episodes, including the episode of "Burke's Law" where Honey was introduced, have been uploaded to the Internet Archive.

I watched a couple of episodes today, and that ocelot didn't seem all that tame!

Alfred Hitchcock Presents, season 2 episode 28, “One More Mile to Go”, originally broadcast on April 7, 1957. David Wayne, Steve Brodie, directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

On broadcast TV (ME-TV channel). Recommended.

Thanks for this recommendation. I'm halfway thru season 2 weekend binge and greatly enjoying the show. Ron Livingston's character is great. His random and poetic diatribes are very reminiscent of Hank Azaria with Brockmire. :beer

Started "Dark Winds" last night (three episdoes in). It's currently a two-season series based on the Tony Hillerman novels with production involvement by Robert Redford. A third season has been greenlit for 2025.

Enjoying it so far with it's great casting and a scenic backdrop of open desert amongst redrock formations.

Lt. leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) is perfectly cast as head of the Tribal Police -- lean, stoic and observent.

Love that Noah Emmerich from "The Americans" is in the cast; once again playing an FBI agent. (Let's hope no beautiful Russian women show up in this series. :P )

There's a murder mystery and some bad guys doing bad things. There's also a hint of Navajo ceremonies which played a large part in some of Hillerman's books.

Hope to enjoy this series through the end.

Found myself running out of WWII/military ops shows worth watching and stumbled upon shows I had no interest in about thefamous French fashion designers. Im finding that a couple of them take place in post war Paris and talk about the survival of the brands through WWII. If your "house" stayed open during occupation, chances are your "customers" were German big wigs who wanted to dress up their wives and girlfriends. "The New Look" on Apple TV is one such series and I am finding it fascinating with excellent acting and scenery, while also capturing the plight of the Jews and French resistance during the war. I even learned what "haute coture" translates too!

"Dark Winds", the Tony Hillerman-based drama, went super fast. (Only two seasons and few eps per season). But it'll be coming back next year for season three.

I'm now through most of season one of "Borgen", the Danish political drama. Most of the Boglehead reviews were several years back, so I'm late to the game. But it is very good. Great characters and interesting plots and subplots. I wasn't sure I wanted to watch a political drama, but I find the decision-making by the PM fascinating and Denmark and Greenland give a nice change of scene.

As a side note, it's interesting all the English phrases that have made it into the Danish language. You have all these politicos rambling about in Danish and out pops one of these phrases. Just some that I managed to remember:

- spin doctor
- 15 minutes of fame
- on a need-to-know basis
- Deep Throat
- girl power
- as soon as possible

I'd compare Homicide more to a show like The Wire than to a show like Law and Order. I was not a Law and Order fan and, in my opinion, it is not even in the same zip code as a show like Homicide. I also much preferred a show like NYPD Blue to Law and Order.

I'd compare Homicide more to a show like The Wire than to s how like Law and Order. I was not a Law and Order fan and, in my opinion, it is not even in the same zip code as a show like Homicide. I also much preferred a show like NYPD Blue to Law and Order.

Completely agree. (Could never get into Law & Order or any of its related shows.)

(David Simon, Eric Overmyer, and David Mills wrote for both series, "Homicide" and "The Wire".)

I watched two episodes of Rings of Power. It was really boring and gives me a new appreciation for what Game of Thrones / House of the Dragon managed to accomplish. Without Orlando Bloom playing hot elf Legolas, a lot of things just don't work. The sets are beautiful though. I would love to visit the dwarf mountain abode.

Also tried Season 2 of Interview with the Vampire after finding Season 1 boring (didn't watch past a few episodes). Season 2 also seems bad. Armand's character completely not like Anne Rice's novels (and also not hot enough as per her description in the books). I think they should just do a mystery series based on the Talamasca and make stuff up instead of messing up her original novels.

So now hoping Only Murders in the Building 3 is as good as 1 and 2.

I'm still waiting for something to surpass David Suchet's Poirot, and despair that nothing that good will ever be produced again.

Blue Lights, on Amazon Prime with Britbox.

This is a BBC police drama which features 3 new officers in high-pressure patrol jobs, set in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Recommended.

Yes indeed!
We do miss his Poirot!

He probably spoiled "Poirot" for both of us forever. It just doesn't work anymore when some other actor plays that part!

That was such nice "entertainment". It's difficult to find something like that nowadays, without excessive unpleasantnesses of various sorts.
It's almost like the entire show itself had Suchet's Poirot's sensibilities, tisanes and all!

Watching random episodes of Growing Pains on Prime with ads. It mostly holds up.

Plowing through some lighter fare, sort of a palate cleanser (for my wife) after subjecting her to the gory Fallout series:

- Brokenwood Mysteries - Season 10. Maybe slipping in the writing department, but still like it quite a bit. Having continuity in the cast helps.
- My Life is Murder - Season 4. Basically contrived fluff but enjoy the Auckland scenery. I think this will be the last season.
- Mallorca Files - Season 1. I did not care for it at first but as the season went on and character development matured, it grew on us.

(David Simon, Eric Overmyer, and David Mills wrote for both series, "Homicide" and "The Wire".)
And NYPD Blue, Mills wrote several episodes, Simon only one but notable: 1994's 'Hollie and the Blowfish' has been called 'the network TV pilot for The Wire', featuring familiar Wire themes and the 'proto Omar' character Ferdinand Hollie played by Giancarlo Esposito ('Gus Fring' in the Breaking Bad universe). Overmyer was also involved in 9 Law and Order Original and CI episodes. Homicide occurred in the same fictional universe as L&O, with two pairs of crossover episodes besides John Munch being the same character in Homicide and L&O SVU (a brief cameo in The Wire by Richard Belzer as, apparently, Munch suggests the same).

I liked all the shows mentioned. I feel The Wire may be a bit overrated when called '(one of) the greatest shows of all time' as if far superior to any of the other 3. I don't think it's *far* better, and somewhat uneven. Though L&O over >1300 episodes of all variants was (is) much more uneven. Original in its prime compared reasonably well to the others in theirs IMO. Over all seasons of SVU (I haven't watched all of and probably never will) or even all later sometimes repetitive episodes with casts of varying quality in late Original? OK, no. But NYPD Blue too was pretty formulaic by the end and IMO didn't fully match the Dennis Franz/Jimmy Smits seasons after, only 1/2 way through.
