Looking for Tall T-Shirts

Post by martinezoutdoors »

I'm looking for lightweight, tall cotton T-shirts. I know that the internet is my best bet to find these in large quantities for a low price, and it's surprising how difficult it is to find a website where the price benefits of shopping online aren't offset by big shipping costs. To make things a little more difficult, the tall sizing is essential for me. Do you Bogleheads know of any hidden gem websites out there that might accommodate my needs?

Amazon.com has MANY brands of them and free shipping. And once you find out who the seller is on Amazon.com (e.g. Hanes), then you can go directly to the seller's web site if you don't think Amazon is a hidden gem.

shirtspace.com has quite a few long and tall shirts. Try searching for all the terms like “long” or “tall”, or just call them and ask.

How tall is tall?

If you (or whoever you are shopping for) are just slightly off the end of the regular height spectrum, Old Navy has t-shirts in tall sizes that might be enough. There is also a t-shirt manufacturer called Next Level that has many resellers on Amazon whose shirts tend to be quite slim and affordable, so you may be able to just size up and get a bit more length. Both of these options are more likely to have synthetic/cotton blend t-shirts than 100% cotton.

If you are significantly past the regular the height spectrum you will need to look at the specialty retailers. American Tall has a good selection and their size Tall is significantly taller than Old Navy/Gap Tall and they have an Extra-Tall even beyond that, but they are not what I would call low price and their quality is not great (stitching is below Old Navy level and their sizing is inconsistent).

If you want to spring for quality, Prana has tall t-shirts in a organic cotton/synthetic blend but they are definitely not low price and LL Bean also has t-shirts in tall sizes.

I need tall sizes, and have used LL Bean's for decades. For white T-Shirts (undershirts) Jockey Tall work for me.

shirtspace.com is a place where tshirt printing companies can buy wholesale shirts in bulk. They look to have every type and weight of shirt you could ever want.

I’ve used them and been happy.

I am tall.

JC Penney tee shirts are my favorites. Their St. John's tall tee shirts are reasonably priced, fit well, and are available in a number of colors. DW gifts them to me for birthday and Christmas. Always happy for the new ones.

Not light/thin but good quality for tall is Duluth longtails... Swear by them and if you sign up and hang around you will get some deals.

Like others I like the Jockey classic crew necks for undershirts.

You may want to search reddit.com/r/bigmanfashionadvice this topic comes up a lot and lots of reviews and recommendations have been posted.

I like next level t shirts. Large size is 29 inches long. Cheap and super comfortable. J crew is my rec for more premium. Always check the length on the garment size as tall brands vary enormously.

+1 Also, use the search filters on Amazon to easily narrow down the selection. On the left, there will be a search filter for various Tall sizes. Then on the upper right, you can sort those search results by lowest to highest price.

Eddie Bauer website has a decent selection of tall sizes and I buy my tall t-shirts from there.

Also check out American Tall website.

Tall sizes have become a lot more common. If you dont have any especially fancy needs, buying them directly from Hanes or Fruit of the Loom isnt a bad choice. If you want them more fashionable, Lands` End, LL Bean, Eddie Bauer or for a more sporty look Under Armor are good choices.

Facing the same dilemma as the last of my Kmart XLT's wear out. Walmart sells them, Dickies brand. The internet doesn't show 2XLT, but the store has them. Not wild about the Dickies logo on it, but it is discreet.

I’ve been purchasing from Tall Slim Tees for about 4 years now and have had great luck. If you’re on the slimmer side and you are over 6’ 2” you should have great luck finding what you need. Their sizing chart is accurate. https://tallslimtees.com/

Thanks -- I was excited to learn about this. I've been buying the Eddie Bauer tall-slim tees. They are pretty good, but they are expensive for what they are.

For what it's worth, the Wirecutter recommendation for best white tee is the J. Crew Broken-In T-shirt, which (surprisingly to me) is available in tall. I wouldn't call it cheap, but it's not too terrible: https://www.jcrew.com/p/mens/categories ... Code=AG008

Not sure about lightweight
DXL big and tall has in store availability. Pocket and no pocket. They get thinner over time.
JCP used to be good.
