Booking multi city flights 2024

Post by TarHeel2002 »

I’m looking at booking a multi city flight for my family of 5 next summer to the Pacific Northwest. Inbound city will be Spokane and outbound will be Seattle from our home base in the Midwest. I was looking at Delta for everything and it’s $3985 main cabin so we can all sit together. If I fly in with Delta and out with American Airlines it’s $2965. Should I just book one way flights with each air line separately or should I use Expedia to coordinate it all and wrap it up in a package? Thanks!

Is the $2965 price made up of adding together one way flights? Or is that the price Expedia shows you for the “package”?

One of the most important rules of travel is to book directly with the airline(s) unless you have a very, very good reason to do otherwise.

I checked both methods and they each are basically the same cost …Expedia and booking with each individual airline.

I kind of was leaning in this direction so I have a little more control over it

When presented with that situation in the past, I've always booked in and out as separate one way tickets through the airlines.

In case of any issue / changes / rebooking, I'd rather work directly with the airline - especially if i'm already at the airport. If anything goes wrong, no reason to have to deal with an intermediary.

From Chicago, I've booked via SWA for similar travel. While not one PNR for the entire trip, creating the separate itineraries is easy and has worked well. Cheaper too.

As above, no matter what you decide, book directly with the airline.

Then you have your answer, book direct.

I would book separately with each airline. I do it all the time. I’ve never booked with Expedia.

I regularly book one way tickets opposed to round trip. My experience, unlike the years past, booking one way doesn’t add to much to the overall cost and provides a lot more flexibility should you need to change the itinerary.

I always book directly with the airline as well. Travel consolidators add unnecessary complexity in my experience.

You should book directly with the airlines. But I would totally book a one-way with this airline and another one with that airline. From my experience flights are usually booked best 30-60 days in advance. I am wondering if you´re a bit too early.

I agree now is probably too early for next summer - very roughly, the lowest fares are likely to be 2-4 months out. Recommend tracking prices on Google Flights.
