Help check my math
Help check my math
My son goes to daycare 4 days a week, Tuesday-Friday. The charge is $1400/mo. We get 2 weeks of “vacation” where we are only charge 1/2 price for the week we are on vacation.
I told the daycare we would be on vacation the week of 7/3–7/7. They told me the prorated amount would be $1310. I have no clue how they came up with that number.
My math tells me it should $1225.
We are paying for the following days:
7/4 (closed but we get charged) - 7/7
7/11 - 7/14
7/18 - 7/21
7/25 - 7/28
That’s 16 days we’re paying for.
That’s $1400/16*4=$350/wk
$350/2 = $175
$1400 - $175 = $1225
Does anyone see a way this is incorrect?

makes sense to me. ask them how they came up with what they did.

Re: Help check my math
No, but here's what they did:
$1400 divided by 31 days in July is $45 per calendar day. You're taking four days off of daycare, and at half rate that's $90 back, which gets you to exactly $1310.
It's not the right way to do it, but that's what happened.

I kind of agree with you. Even if you assume 21 "weekdays" in July, or the annual average of 21.67 weekdays per month... At anything close to $350 per week, a prorated half week should be a lot more than $90. I'd challenge it, politely. They should not be basing their charges or credits on weekend days, since they don't work 31 days in July!

Thanks. I sent an email explaining the same math I did here.
Re: Help check my math
I got a note back from the daycare agreeing with my math
