Where and how do you purchase your pet medications?
Where and how do you purchase your pet medications?
Where and how do you purchase your pet medications? Every time I go to my pet's veterinarian; I feel like I am over paying for medications. I think it is because they both prescribe and sell the medications. For example, after paying $60 for an antibiotic, I found it on-line for a tenth of the cost.

I use 800 petmeds or Wedgewood pharmacy - depending on what they need filled.

I use Chewy for insulin and needles for a diabetic cat. They are efficient and about 25% less than vet. Shipping is included.Ependytis wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 12:58 pm Where and how do you purchase your pet medications? We switched to a recommended vet that is located in a less affluent area. Our vet bills have decreased, prescription costs have decreased, and our dog, a 12 year old boxer, seems healthier than ever. Thirty minute drive instead of five, but worth it in every way.
I'll teach you anything you need to know about knee replacement. You teach me everything I need to know about investing.

I typically use Costco for heart worm medication since they have good pricing. For occasional antibiotics and such many pet medicines are the same as human medications and can be filled under the free/$10 program many grocery stores have. GoodRX also has pet medications and can point you to a pharmacy.

Kroger for dog's tyroid med - GoodRX
Walmartpet RX for one other, AllVet for another. Just shop around once you have the drug name. Most will get the RX from the Vet, if it can't be uploaded. Many give an autorefill discount. When my dog died in Nov, I called explained that I had unopen meds to return. Walmart refunded and sent me the return label. Allvet gave me a refund and told me to donate to a shelter. Yes, most vets mark up prices. Good luck.

A local vet who also happens to live in my neighborhood. I can buy medications for much less online but I can't figure out how to ask him to fax the prescription to the online company without making things awkward.

I've used both Costco and Safeway with a GoodRX card for a recent RX for my dog.
Recently I used Chewy for a new prescription dry food for my dog but the prices were the same every where I checked (think all the sellers use algo's like Amazon uses for pricing or the dog food company controls the price) but I get 5% off since it is a recurring order.
My mobile vet also was bought out by a company out of Boston and their mail order meds are about 60% cheaper than through my vet before she sold her practice so that's a bit of a savings for a thyroid RX.

Harris Teeter and Walgreens
When you discover that you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount.
Re: Where and how do you purchase your pet medications?
Our veterinarian's online pharmacy partner, VetsFirstChoice/Covetrus, is competitive with Chewy's pharmacy for heartworm preventative but erratic for shipping speed. We use Chewy for thyroid meds (but I now see Covetrus is also price-competitive for that).
A previous dog had her own Walgreens W-card for her glaucoma meds (human medications) and had her cyclosporine suspension drops (generic Restasis) compounded.

For prescription meds, a local non-profit clinic most of the time. Other times a vet practice in a less affluent part of town. There is a vet clinic about a mile from where we live, near one of the most affluent parts of the small city we live in. The prices are outrageously high there, not only for meds, also for care in general.

I get heart worm from my vet and flea and tick meds from Chewy.
