Recommendations for dishwashers from Costco

If you've purchased a dishwasher from Costco and have been happy with it - cleaning and reliability, I'd love to hear about it.
Its time to change our dishwasher of over 15 years and I hear they don't make them like that anymore.
I diligently looked up Customer Reports and saw they rate the Bosch highly. Unfortunately, Costco doesn't carry them. I could order those from homedepot/Lowes. Or just acknowledge that most appliances break down more frequently now and buy a model that Costco carries (free installation and haul away and covered for 2 years) and buy the extended warranty they offer for 3 additional years (total of 5 years).
We cook a lot and need something that washes well. We just love Costco's customer service and its invariably our first stop for everything.
Or the other hand, if you have a Bosch 100 series and think its worth going out of the way for them, I'd love to hear that too.

KitchenAid 44 DBA Hidden Control Dishwasher with FreeFlex Third Level Rack and Express Wash Cycle

It has been much better than our previous dishwasher (GE profile) in cleaning the dishes, space and noise level. There was one recall related to this dishwasher last year - Kitchenaid sent a repairman to take care of it for no charge. Overall happy with the purchase - will see how it holds up in the coming years.

We got the 100 model last year and it works fine but the big question is if it will still be working in 10+ years.

I installed it myself and it came with a special electric wire/plug that needed to be plugged in. My prior dishwasher was wired into a junction box. (or maybe it was vice versa, I forget) They sell the other type of plug and a local hardware store had it in stock so I just had to run over there to pick it up. That was not a big deal but make sure that you have the right plug or you may need to order it online to get it delivered.

Higher end Bosch dishwashers have hidden controls which seen to be popular now. My son has one of those and a problem with that is that you cannot see how much longer it had to run. With the front panel controls on the 100 you can see how much longer it needs to run so I prefer that.

Buy a Bosch 500 or 800 from your favorite store, you won't regret it. Reliable, very quiet and most importantly it cleans! I'm biased, it's the best dw we've ever owned.

We moved 10 years ago & the first thing we did was replace the working dishwasher with a front controlled Bosch. It’s actually the same model that I installed in our last home. All I can say about the Bosch is that it cleans very well & just keeps on doing it. Very reliable. I wouldn’t have anything but a Bosch. Just so you know, I’m a huge fan/advocate of Costco, but I wouldn’t buy a different brand dishwasher there because you get cash back or an extended warranty.

We bought Maytag MDB4949SKZ approx 15 months ago from Costco. Broke last weekend. Have a technician coming in tomorrow to fix it under warranty. I am suspecting inlet valve issue. The dishwasher, when it worked, cleaned well. We have never had Bosch but what I read this seems to be a little bit louder but not a deal breaker for us. We bought it with Costco Citi credit card, so should have total 4 years of warranty coverage.

FYI for anyone shopping Costco appliances, and not aware that this perk no longer exists:

Nobody asked me, but I'd like to chime in with looking at a Miele. Installed it myself, only had it two years, but absolutely love it.

My criteria for buying a dishwasher were:

1. Does it clean? Looking at Consumer Reports, it appears that they all clean well as the range is from 4/5 to 5/5.
2. Noise. I want the quietest dishwasher that I can afford. In our current house we started with a new Bosch Ascenta installed by the builder. We thought it was too noisy and sold it to our daughter to replace the "condo special" that was in her townhouse. Its replacement was a Bosch 500 model which worked quietly well for 7 years and then the control board died. We did not even consider repairing it and just went out a bought a Miele for $1400 MSRP in 2019. The Miele is very quiet, but not the quietest one they make.
3. Brand reputation. For example, Bosch good and Samsung bad.

Since owning the Miele I would add:
4. Adjustable 3rd rack. So much better for flatware and cooking tools than a basket.

And, my frivolous criterion:
5. Made in Deutschland.

We love our bosch and will stick with this brand unless the brand quality deteriorates. It's so quiet you can barely tell it's running at all and it doesn't have hidden controls.

We've had a Samsung for three years and it has been great. Can't hear a sound out of it when its on and cleans well.

No need to wait for a dozen BH reviews (and another dozen comments from BH who didn't buy a dishwasher at CC) - there are thousands of reviews of Costco dishwashers from those who purchased them on the Costco web site. And you can sort by rating. Highest rated is the Kitchenaid KDFE104KPS for $999. 90% of purchasers gave it 4 or 5 stars.

The Bosch dishwashers getting good reviews are sold at HD, Lowes, and at a couple local appliance stores here.
Does Bosch make cheaper-built appliances to meet price points for the big box stores?
Or same Bosch product quality lines sold everywhere?

We just finished building and installed three Asko brand dishwashers. Our appliance store that we have dealt with for 30 years recommended them over Bosch. We have had Bosch in our old home and they were solid but we did have issues a few times. Asko is built by SubZero and while they may be a few bucks more than a Bosch they are really doing a great job so far. Well built all stainless and quiet and they get things clean the first time. Is there a reason you wanted to stick with Costco?

I recently got a Kitchenaid 3 rack, but not from Costco. It is nearly silent (47 decibles IIRC). Has lots of options (heat/no heat, times, etc.) Stainless on the inside. Cleans well. About $1k ish.

I didn't care about the 3rd rack before I bought it, but I really like it a lot and consider it a real plus.

I know Bosch has a good reputation too, but understand that parts /service are a problem. However, that might be the nature of my more rural setting.

My KitchenAid dishwasher ($579 in 1997) has been trouble-free for over 25yrs.
Racks have started rusting, and they are expensive to replace.
If I knew KitchenAid still has same quality, would replace with another.
But 25yrs is a long time, so not counting on that.

We have had 3 homes now with Bosch/Thermador dishwashers.

House 1 - Thermador dishwasher equivalent to Bosch 500 series. Still like new and did a great job at the 7 year mark when we sold the house
House 2 - Bosch 500 series, ditto at the 12 year mark when house was sold, and had better racking. This one came from Lowes.
Current house - Thermador Topaz (if it hadn't been part of the package, we would have done Bosch 800 or Benchmark), 4 years with no issues, the quietest one yet.

The only recommendation is to look at the different racking configurations. I preferred the upper rack from house 2's Bosch to the current Thermador, but also prefer the Thermador's 3rd (cutlery) rack over a basket.

I bought this same dishwasher (Kitchenaid) from Costco last year, when the Bosch we had ordered 9 months earlier was still on backorder when we needed it.

We LOVE it - the 3rd rack on the KA is so much more usable than the Bosch which we'd had in another house and liked. You can actually put small glasses, custard cups, etc in it instead of it just being a very low flat rack for utensils, so I'm pretty sure we're fitting more in this one than we had the Bosch. It's just as quiet as our former Bosch and cleans just as well. Another bonus: we bought it on sale at Costco and it saved us $$$ vs the Bosch!

We just bought a Samsung dishwasher from Costco a couple months ago. I want to get a different brand but the Samsung matches out other appliances which are black stainless (never again).

The Costco experience is great but I would avoid Samsung because none of their dishwashers included separate heaters for drying so the dishes are often still wet after the run is complete.

One more thing is that one of the LEDs is already dead. I haven’t called yet.

How's the Bosch working out for you?

We just bought an 800 and are quite happy with it but wonder about opinions from longer-term users.

The ONE thing we did was keep the flatware basket from our old Kitchenaid. The basket openings in the Bosch were a little small for our flatware.

Asko was never made by Sub-Zero. Sub-Zero sold/marketed Asko dishwashers in the USA because they need a dishwasher in their lineup.
Sub-Zero now makes their own dishwashers—Cove.

Gezz,,,sorry about that...our manuals and all that are from Sub Zero on the Asko dishwashers...I should check and see if our Sub Zero units and Wolf stoves are also knockoffs...I dont know where they are made to be honest but so far they are great..thanks for the heads up..I will call Bekins also and ask them whats up because they told us they were from same makers as Sub Zero...thanks for the intel...we have three of them in the house I will let you know how they work out!

We had the same dilemma as you when we needed a new dishwasher back in January of 2020. We had previously owned a Bosch and loved it, but wanted the Costco warranty, and Costco didn’t carry Bosch at the time.

I’ve shared this in a previous post, but we decided to buy a Samsung through Costco. After 2.5 years, it started leaking. We had a repairman check it out, and a part that should be about $80 had broken, and it normally would be a very straightforward repair. However, the problem was that Samsung was no longer making that part, and according to the repairman, this was common practice for Samsung to discontinue parts (more so than other brands). We ended up having to replace the dishwasher, as we couldn’t locate the part anywhere.

Fortunately, the warranty came through and we got a refund for the dishwasher, but afterward we did buy a Bosch from Lowe’s. So far so good!

That is why I replaced my Kitchenaid. Racks deteriorating and getting black junk all over the "clean" dishes. They wanted about $550 (I forget exactly) so I decided it was best to replace it. I didn't have it 25 years -- it was about 15 years, 2007-2022.
