Thanks. Will watch for it in the mail in the next couple of weeks or so.

Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
Not necessarily. It depends on what you're holding in the account. If it's mostly funds and ETFs, many of the 1099s are now available. If you're holding individual bonds, not yet for many. It'll be a staggered rollout.
Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
I recall when we had non-VG funds in our joint brokerage statement that that one was in phase 2 also.Artsdoctor wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 8:42 am Not necessarily. BTW, the new format this year has even more detail on the USGO and Tax Exempt and Sec 199A components. I really wish Vanguard provided an online tool to break this down a bit more to help with Tax Prep, but I am very appreciative of their full and direct disclosure.

It's nice. But they don't seem to include the settlement fund - VMFXX - inthe % of govt obligations breakout, for us.retiringwhen wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 8:59 am BTW, the new format this year has even more detail on the USGO and Tax Exempt and Sec 199A components. Interesting, the distribution detail is there, but not the USGO section!

That's how I have usually done in the past for all of my funds. It's odd that it's not in there for the breakout, but is in there for the detailed distribution.retiringwhen wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 10:21 amyou can always get it here: https://advisors.vanguard.com/tax-center/runninginvestor wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 10:09 am It's nice. Just wanted to point that out for others that didn't know about the government obligations percentages and they're only seeing it for the first time on the 1099. Do not forget about VMFXX.

Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
Yes, it is odd that it is missing. I try to get the tax center link in every thread about 1099s as it is really a great summary of all the info from Vanguard and far superior to the page on the retail investors site.runninginvestor wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 11:19 amThat's how I have usually done in the past for all of my funds. Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
I got my Vanguard 1099. My 1099 from Fidelity isn’t expected until 2/11. Is there any reason for the longer wait? I do own VTI in this taxable account at Fidelity if that has anything to do with it.
Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
I suspect that is it. Brokers relying on info from others may take longer. That was true when I held non-VG funds in our VG brokerage account

Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
I find any account (at Fidelity) in which I hold international funds has their 1099 delayed every year. I suspect it has something to do with foreign tax reporting. But, that is just a guess.
Once in a while you get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
Probably the non-Fidelity fund. Vanguard has later dates for investors with non-Vanguard funds or stocks. I suspect that the reason for this delay is based upon the need for each fund family to distribute the key distribution details (all that stuff in we care about like USGO %) to the brokerages who in turn must ingest, validate then integrate with their data streams.
Vanguard published their ICI files on the 17th to the public. I can assume that Fidelity was unlikely to receive that information any earlier than the 17th.
The tax code for 1099s has gotten much, much more complex with the tax law changes in in the last 6 years. I am amazed that even with those head winds, automation and improved technology continues to move the dates to the left each year at all the brokerages.
I will brag on Vanguard for a minute though. They are publishing in great detail and with easy access all of that information on their websites in January. Fidelity is only promising detail for Foreign Taxes in MARCH! and USGO data sometime in February.
For those that don't know and are interested in detailed fund level information, Vanguard publishes their ICI (Investment Company Institute) standard Excel files that includes just about every single detail about the tax-status of their funds and their distributions annually in the middle of January. They can be found at the Advisors Site Tax Center Page.
Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
My Fidelity "Tax Forms" page says, "In Progress // Check back 02/11/2023 for updated availability info," then there is a link "Why?" Selecting that link tells me, "Your form is delayed because we're waiting for information from ISHARES ... and 6 more issuers."

Can you provide the step by step (what to click on) process to get the U.S. Treasury interest % (state tax free) for the Vanguard MM funds?retiringwhen wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 10:21 amyou can always get it here: https://advisors.vanguard.com/tax-center/runninginvestor wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 10:09 am It's nice. I clicked onto the provided link but couldn’t figure out how to get that information.
EDIT: never mind, I just went upstairs & checked the 2022 1099-DIV document I printed out & see that the % of US Treasury interest is listed for each MM fund on page “4 of 6”

Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
I think Vanguard has an easier time because a lot of brokerage accounts only hold Vanguard mutual funds. It doesn't have to wait for data from third-party mutual funds. For people who do hold non-Vanguard mutual funds, Vanguard can delay only those 1099s.retiringwhen wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 11:37 am The tax code for 1099s has gotten much, much more complex with the tax law changes in in the last 6 years. Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
Yes, but is it safe to use already? In other words, how likely is a revision?

For more than a decade my taxes have involved my sibling "partners" in renting real estate and our tax coordination has taken us pretty much to the deadline every year. Now I'm on my own again, and I'm looking forward to a more timely submission. I have everything I need now to file the 2022 tax return.
The question is, how soon is too soon to file one's taxes?
The note at the bottom of the first page of the consolidated form gives me pause:
"Changes to dividend tax classifications processed after your original tax form is issued for 2022 may require an amended tax form."
Is it best to wait until the middle of February to file?

I tuned off the mail almost 15 or more years ago. No way I wanted sensitive financial information being handled and sitting in my mailbox.
Almost all our mail is now junk. Minimal things during a year are actionable.

Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
No consolidated form yet for us...and as of this morning, the website doesn't even mention that I should be waiting for it between now and March sometime.
Not a very good way to communicate to your customers seeking info in the tax center. (As of yesterday it still showed the need to wait for the consolidated form. Now I just have links to the old mutual fund side documents which i already had.)
(I did call and report this to hopefully save some folks from filing an erroneous return due to their oversight.)

wouldn't you notice that the income reported on the brokerage tax statement was less than the amount on the financial statement or would you blindly just enter the earliest tax form and file away?Blues wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 8:08 am No consolidated form yet for us...and as of this morning, the website doesn't even mention that I should be waiting for it between now and March sometime.

Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
I am guessing it is in part due to the fact you have a mix of MF and Brokerage accounts. I have fully transitioned to the brokerage accounts and see status and dates on all accounts. Interestingly, there is a link to the old page to allow you to see the old mutual fund and closed accounts. the popup is titled "Tax forms that may not show here (and why)". Could it be that your missing accounts are closed and you need to see the old page? I can't test as I didn't close any accounts in 2022.Blues wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 8:08 am No consolidated form yet for us...and as of this morning, the website doesn't even mention that I should be waiting for it between now and March sometime.

Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
We have all 6 of our 1099s (all accounts migrated to new platform years ago) which is a first this year to have that done in January. We have iShares, Schwab, and Avantis ETFs in several of the accounts. This is the first time we've been in Tranche 1 for 1099s, and to be honest the first time we've ever been waiting for our final 1099 to come in from our credit union.
I'll give Vanguard some credit for accelerating this process with their new IT initiatives, especially for the accounts that hold non-Vanguard ETFs. My gut instinct is that they had some holdover relic of mainframe "batch processing" that took days to process until recently.
My mom has a non-Vanguard mutual fund in her Vanguard brokerage account. She does not have her 1099 yet.

It's not just Vanguard, it looks to me like some of the plumbing between providers is getting better too and that helps.stan1 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 9:20 am We have all 6 of our 1099s (all accounts migrated to new platform years ago) which is a first this year to have that done in January. It is interesting that the non-Vanguard ETFs did not keep you from Group 1. That is one of the signs of the simplicity of managing ETFs vs. mutual funds that alex_686 often states as a major positive aspects of ETFs for the industry, and one of the reasons why I see them as inevitable.

We have all of our 1099's from the "old" mutual fund account side...which was closed last year during the Spring. (We used the supplied link on the Vanguard site to access them.)
Prior to this morning, the site also had a blurb in the Tax Center which stated that our consolidated 1099 would be available between 01/24 and 03/12.
However, as of this morning...there is no longer any mention of the Consolidated 1099 due from the brokerage side, despite the fact that nothing has changed since yesterday, and all of our accounts are still open within the brokerage. So, it dropped off the screen for some reason.
(Thus, the only 1099's available are the ones we had already downloaded earlier this month from the mutual fund side. While I know for certain that I need the consolidated 1099 to deal with the various transactions we had in our accounts within the brokerage.)

I understood you, but it was not clear which side (old or new) was reporting what. I tried to provide specific references to what I see as a reference point.
It does sound like a bug and I bet dollars to donuts it has to do with the fact that you have a mix of MF and Brokerage accounts. Vanguard promised problems because they reducing support for MF accounts and they are delivering
If someone reports that same issue with brokerage only accounts, we can modify the hypothesis.

Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
I have a mix of Brokerage and MF accounts and everything appears to be there. I have not reconciled the tax forms to my statements - I usually do that in late Feb or March but we have all VG investments (except for a couple of US individual stocks) so I'm confident that is complete, subject to the usual risk of a corrected statement.
When you discover that you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount.
Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
The loss of the blurb that Consolidated Forms would be available Jan- March evidently has nothing to do with whether you were on the mutual fund platform and switched to the brokerage this year. I have been on the brokerage platform for several years since it started and my message disappeared last night. It was there in the afternoon and gone last night and now. I called Vanguard, and they said there was an "update" that caused the problem and they were working on a fix. I hope they do because I don"t want to fight them for my 1099. On a side note, I bought a 17 week treasury bill at auction last week, and they had the payout as semiannually. I called to the bond desk, and they were shocked and will hopefully fix that. I have been with Vanguard since 1976 and never seen such incompetence and negligence.

I always wait til at least mid-February, as history has shown me that brokerages in a hurry to get out a 1099 in January, often send me a corrected form the following month. I'm never in a hurry to file as my tax planning usually has me owing just enough to avoid penalties.iceport wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 6:02 pmYes, but is it safe to use already? All my early planning is just using up cold, snowy, dark nights before spring hitsBabaWawa wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 11:11 am I always wait til at least mid-February, as history has shown me that brokerages in a hurry to get out a 1099 in January, often send me a corrected form the following month. I'm never in a hurry to file as my tax planning usually has me owing just enough to avoid penalties.

Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
Same here as well. Based on past we usually get our consolidated 1099 mid February so not expecting that to change. Just wished the "need to wait" info was left. Hopefully just a glitch and gets fixed.Blues wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 8:08 am No consolidated form yet for us...and as of this morning, the website doesn't even mention that I should be waiting for it between now and March sometime.
Not a very good way to communicate to your customers seeking info in the tax center. (As of yesterday it still showed the need to wait for the consolidated form.

Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
Personally, I'm in no hurry to e-file. I created some Excel spreadsheets a number of years ago that I manually enter all of my tax information. I want to be sure that my spreadsheet calculations match what I have imported (from Vanguard) and manually entered into my H&R Block software. If there are any data changes from Vanguard or H&R Block updates, I simply make any necessary changes and usually end up filing sometime in February.iceport wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 6:02 pmYes, but is it safe to use already? In other words, how likely is a revision?![]()

Thanks. That's kind of what I remember doing, too, on the timing. I'll probably wait until the second or third week in February.minesweep wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 1:15 pm Personally, I'm in no hurry to e-file. Getting >$4k back this year. Now that there's actually some opportunity cost to overpaying, I'll probably fix that with a couple of new state and federal W-4s this year.

Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
I usually file as soon as I have all the 1099s, and I got the last one today, but I've decided to wait until mid-February to allow time for TurboTax updates and any changes to Vanguard's consolidated tax form.
Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
My VNQ 1099 has to wait. Wish I bought it in tax sheltered account.
Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
All of my 1099 are available. I have all of my accounts in the brokerage and no non-vanguard investments. I am quite happy with the Vanguard tax reporting process.

Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
I think it depends on what you hold. I have a few non Vanguard things- a few bonds and one Muni fund in taxable brokerage. I checked today when I saw your post. A couple of days ago it was saying expect any time between 1/15 and later. Today it says "available by 2/23". I did already get my tIRA 1099 at least.
Re: Vanguard 2022 consolidated tax form 1099
As of this morning, the "blurb" is back stating that the 1099-Consolidated will be available in late-ish February.
At least that's progress.
