Best places for high interest savings accounts?

Post by Newieinvestor »

I'm looking at the Lending Club, My Savings Direct, Marcus, UFB, and a few others. Do people here have any favorites or should I just go with the highest interest rate (not sure if the banks that are high now will continue to be or if this is some sort of "promotion" to get people to sign up)? Thanks so much!

i heard Bask Bank had 4% recently. That's the highest I've seen for savings account so far.

This isn’t what you asked but it seems more and more right now, including myself, are utilizing a money market fund in a broker account like SPRXX to get > 4% yields with a modicum more risk (as in, people still post here about that one time in 2008 one MMF went from $1.00 to $0.99 for a couple of days). With a Fidelity CMA account you can even get free check writing bill pay and ATM debit card privileges on it.

only up to $75,000. Amount above that earns 0.50%:
Open an account with a high yield of 4.25% APY* up to $75,000
Earns 4.25% APY calculated on your daily balance of up to $75,000. Amounts over $75,000 earn 0.50% APY. The APY for this tier will range from 4.25% to 0.50%.

My Savings Direct is the best I know of. I would go with that since you've already looked into it. I use it.

PNC Bank has 4%

I found Marcus has No-Penalty CD for 13 months at 3.5% that’s also pretty great

The answers you get won't be much differrent than the answers from a week ago. Try a quick search and you will see this question is asked weekly.

Vio Bank has 4.01% for savings account.

Also it's a good chance to bring up that you can put up to $10,000 per year per person into US Treasury series I savings bonds which are currently paying 6.89%. you can't redeem them for 12 months but it's worth looking into to see if it's helpful of the for your situation.

what I have noticed when searching for something that yields a bit above national average is the flexibility. Most of these accounts limits 6 transactions in a month (except maybe Marcus). So this is something to consider.

Redneck back is the online only goofy cousin of All America Bank.

You can open 1 account at each bank and view them together in your account. A single person should have a combined savings limit of 150k at the high rate, and 300k for a couple with 4 accounts total.

150k per person.
300k per couple.

Got rid of all my HYSA and moved to Schwab SWVXX 7-Day Yield 4.26% no fdic insurance but not much risk of loss and no amount or transaction limits. Also easy to move extra cash to T-bills with a few clicks  .

I have to admit I never really understand the savings account questions. The SEC yield of the Vanguard Money Market Fund right now is 4.29%. I assume most people posting here already have an account with Vanguard - so why bother with another interest savings account? I’m genuinely asking, there must be something I’m missing.

Morgan Stanley CashPlus savings is 4%. Mi has an add up that they will soon be offering 4.5%. Etrade is going to 3.5% on Jan 9(even thought they use Morgan Stanley who is 4%).

Morgan Stanley told me each account is FDIC insured for $500,000 if that is a consideration.

Savings rates tend to be stickier than money market mutual fund rates. This is bad in rising situations but good in falling situations. I prefer savings accounts and my brokerage accounts tend to be fully invested.

Does Redneck Bank allow for joint accounts? (it's weird that some online banks don't allow them)
