Progressive vs Stillwater Insurance

Post by mountaineer15 »

I've had Progressive (home and auto) for a few years and have been very happy with their service and payout on claims. However, recently got a quote from Stillwater with a total annual savings of $971 annually that also increases coverage so I have to give it some real consideration. Has anyone dealt with Stillwater? I can't find much about them online which makes me nervous. I've listed the breakdowns below and coverage differences. Thanks for the input.

Stillwater Auto Insurance
Increased liability limits from $100,000/$300,000/$50,000 to $250,000/$500,000/$100,000
Increased uninsured limits from $100,000/$300,000/$50,000 to $250,000/$500,000/$50,000
Increased underinsured limits from $100,000/$300,000/$50,000 to $250,000/$500,000/$50,000
          Progressive per year ~$1,654
            Stillwater per year $1,265
              Savings: ~$389 per year

              Stillwater Homeowner Insurance
Increased Dwelling coverage from $209,000 to $236,000
Increased Other Structures coverage from $20,900 to $23,600
Decreased Personal Property coverage from $146,300 to $118,000 (can go to Stillwater’s next limits of $177,000 for an extra $27.18 year)
                      Progressive per year $1,337
                        Stillwater per year $754.37
                          Savings: $582.63 per year

Stillwater umbrella policy holder here. 10 years, no issues.... Can't comment on claims process.

I’ve used them about 3 years and they have consistently been my cheapest option for equal coverage. With the home and auto bundle my savings is pretty significant. I filed a claim this year for hail damage on my roof, which was rejected because the former homeowners got paid out for a claim in 2015 and never replaced it. They said the pictures from that claim indicated most of the hail damage existed before the storms this spring. Not really Stillwater’s fault and their communication was good. So overall I’ve been satisfied.
