Didn't - on purpose ;-)

I actually remember when I first heard about Madonna while dancing at the Devil House in Tempe, AZ, on New Wave Wednesday when I was in college; I was dancing and my friend asked me "Have you heard Madonna?" - the song Holiday was then becoming popular; she morphed into so many different 'performers' and was always trying to be so avant garde; nowadays (and before) she's a bit odd. There are a few songs I like of hers, but they are the earlier ones.

One band I haven't seen on here who I really like is Blondie; their album Parallel Lines was great.
A bit odd? Oh gosh she is just SAD with all the filler, tooth grilles, overexposing herself...it just got tiresome. When she was young I found her fascinating.

Blondie! Saw them mentioned a few times- huge fan, not only parallel lines but Eat to the Beat and Autoamerican... awesome.

Good choice! U2's War is one of my favorite albums from the 80s. In addition to the singles like New Year's Day, Sunday Bloody Sunday, and 40, there are so many other terrific tracks on there like Seconds, Like a Song, Drowning Man, The Refugee. Come to think of it, everything on there is just great. Joshua Tree gets much of the attention but War was also amazing.
Thanks. I'll check out the album itself; I recognize Sunday Bloody Sunday but not the others you mentioned. Will check out the Joshua Tree as well :beer
They're both great albums but if you're going to start with one, I'd pick Joshua Tree first. It's got some better known songs like Where the Streets Have No Name, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, and With Or Without You. Many consider Joshua Tree to be U2's best.

I’m surprised Metallica wasn’t mentioned much in here. Their 1980s songs were one of the best.

I like Tears for Fears. They're super good. If I had to choose only one band from the 80s, I would definitely pick them. That's my preference.

I can’t believe we’re on page 3 and there’s been not a single mention of Public Enemy “Fear of a Black Planet”. It’s the best record released in 1988 and confirmed by the extremely influential id not controversial Village Voice “Pazz & Jop Poll” (rating the top record of year since 1971).

Pitchfork gave it an extremely rare perfect 10 score. Maybe 100 records out of 25,000 have gotten a 10.

Even Chuck D makes the very awesome Sonic Youth song “Kool Thing” even awesomer (1990).
