Where to stash the cash?!?!

Post by beachbum5011 »

I am hoping for some assistance on what ETF funds to place a sum of money (200K) from a recent home sale. As a background-mid 30’s couple, maxing out 401k’s, as well as contributing the maximum to our backdoor Roth. We do not have an HSA as we have a PPO, and do not have debt outside of our mortgage, 1 remaining rental property, and 1 car payment.

We will not need these funds for future use (long-term growth). I do want to start a 529 with a portion of these funds for our child.

I am curious what else is needed? I have plenty of time left before retirement and I am sure to see corrections along the way. I tend to lean towards the aggressive side of investing with the mindset of buy and hold.

Thanks

Use $10k per person for 2021/2022 I-bonds purchase.
Remainder in VTI/VTSAX.
For couple, that would be 80% stock / 20% I-bonds on your $200k to invest.
done.

What is your current asset allocation? That is how I would invest this additional $200k.

You might want to go 85%/15%, given this pop in your net worth.

I am afraid this site can’t give you the answer .Without given whole picture . You just answered to your own question, make it 90/10.

If you are comfortable with 90/10 then stick with 90/10. At your age I was 100% in equities until I retired at the age of 50 then went with 75/25.

I would treat this 200k just as you are treating a 200k currently in your portfolio.

No need to treat this 200K any differently from your portfolio. Other have pointed this out. For a 90/10 allocation, you could:
10%=20k. Put this in i-bonds for you+wife
90%=180K. Put this in VTSAX. Make it lump sum

Its your choice how much you want to put in the 529. Without knowing if your retirement is on track, I recommend not contributing to 529 at this time. Keep it in taxable for more flexibility
