Why no historical average returns info on the Vanguard site?

Any idea? Is this a year-end thing as they roll over their own data? the only available stat for reurns is Y/E 12-31-09.

Probably. I use their data for my annual update of my Pie Shop article. If memory serves, last year, the data became available in the first or second week in January.
Ignore the market noise. Keep to your rebalancing schedule whether that is semi-annual, annual or trigger bands.

You can get the numbers by going to the Growth of $10,000 charts on the individual fund pages; if the December 2007 balance was $16,000 and the December 2008 balance was $12,000, then the fund lost 25% in 2008.
