Thoughts on VDE [Vanguard Energy ETF]

Post by drummer »

Hello all,

First post here. I've been considering adding an energy ETF to my portfolio and have narrowed it down to VDE or XLE. I would appreciate any thoughts or experiences with either.

For reference, this is in a tax deferred IRA which also contains VTI, VXUS and a few individual stocks.

Many thanks.

I prefer FILL (low volume though) which is globally diversified or GUNR for a more general play. I own both.

Between VDE and XLE I'd definitely go with VDE. Many more stocks, lower ER.

Thanks for the reply. I bought a single share of both VDE & XLE...just for observation. FILL looks good, too.

VDE looks like a better choice with a lower ER and 96 stocks vs. Only 22 stocks in XLE.
