Gmail asking for birthdate
At login, Gmail asked for a birthdate, saying it was for a federal requirement. I backed out and it didn't ask again. I logged in later, and was not asked again. Was that a legitimate request? Can I just ignore it in the future?

Maybe you should contact Google about this. We're random strangers on the internet, how could we possibly know?ReadyOrNot wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 3:44 pm At login, Gmail asked for a birthdate, saying it was for a federal requirement. Could it be that Google thinks you may be below the minimum required age for an unsupervised account?

Whenever a website asks for my birthday, I give them a fake one. I think some of them are just checking that I am over 18
Re: Gmail asking for birthdate
Google already knows your birthdate and everything else about you. Not sure why it's officially asking you but feed it some fake info of you get asked again.
Re: Gmail asking for birthdate
It's can be useful to have one or more alternate birthdays that you can use for inconsequential places that ask for it. Usually they may want to verify that you're over some minimum required age, 13, 18, 21 or whatever. So, depending on your age, pick an alternate birthday for these situations and stick with it (it may be asked if you lose your password etc). It should be a date you will remember, historic date (like Pearl Harbor), date of high school graduation, date of marriage, date first job started etc.
The closest helping hand is at the end of your own arm.

Fun fact - Your first name, last name and date of birth are over 90% unique in the US. They can use it to merge with other data sets.

Can you simply make one up? I never like to disclose personal information. With data and security breaches today one needs to be cautious.

More fun facts: Just knowing a birthdate, gender and ZIP code is enough information to identify as many as 87 percent of people in the United Statesregularguy455 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 5:32 pm Fun fact - Your first name, last name and date of birth are over 90% unique in the US. Another reason to be careful with seemingly innocuous data.
