[Cheapest "Bring-Your-Own-Device" Cell Phone Service?]

Post by 6d1v7x3 »

Does anyone know where I can get the cheapest "bring your own device" cell phone service? I need about 1000 anytime minutes and one gig of data per month at minimum. Those are my only real requirements. Thank you for any help.

I've also been happy with Red pocket. I have 100min/100text/500mb for $60/year which is plenty since I'm mostly on wifi, most people I text with have iphones, so imessage doesn't count towards texts, and use google voice for most of my calls. You'll need to spend a little more if you aren't willing to make those "sacrifices" but it should still be pretty cheap.

Tello is another alternative.

Mint Mobile isn't bad if you prepay 12 months, $15/month unlimited talk/text, 3GB data. All I really care about is the data, and it's probably hard to beat that price for that. It's more than your stated 1GB data minimum. The only con is it's a MVNO, like RedPocket, Tello, Ting..etc, I haven't noticed performance issues though.

I pay $99 a year for unlimited voice/text and 1gig of data per month, this is through a pre-paid plan with a T-Mobile MVNO https://speedtalkmobile.com/
That company no longer seems to offer the plan I'm on, but there is another similar T-Mobile MVNO
https://www.libertywireless.com/Plans.php
That offers a similar plan (unlimited talk/text, 1gb data) for $10 a month or $100 a year ($8.33/mo) if you pre-pay for a year.
You can also purchase their plan/SIM through amazon.com https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08548W9QN/ , which may allow you to apply some other amazon discount or use amazon gift cards.

Check out T-Mobile connect

https://prepaid.t-mobile.com/prepaid-plans/connect

$15/month + taxes gets you unlimited talk and text and 2 gigs of data.

You can refill from eBay and get $100 credit for $60 or so. Basically, another 40% off. Plus you will save on monthly taxes and fees.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/184488184377

There will one time setup charges for new sim, around 4 bucks on ebay, more if bought on T-Mobile website or store.

When they came out 2-3 years ago, the price was very competitive. Service was average, functional, but with troublespots, so better than some and worse than others.

Now, they seem more expensive. After taxes and fees, it's getting close to $20/month when paid 12 months in advance. Compare to weaker offerings like $10/month, $100/year libertywireless and Net10 $120/year (1GB data, some no low speed excess data, etc.). Service may be average or worse. YMMV.

Redpocket currently has a year of 7GB/month data for $210 ($17.50/month), which isn't much more than I pay Mint (also, Mint more fees), for more than twice the data.

I've come across a few other similar offerings, so deals are out there, and it's not Black Friday or Christmas sales yet.
