Dymo (Astro) Label Maker 1/4 Tape

Post by Leesbro63 » Thu May 28, 2020 1:31 pm

This post is more or less a blast from the past. 55 years ago, I convinced my father to buy me the "gee-whiz" product of the time...an Astro label maker. That made labels in different colors, including woodgrain! The original product was made by a company called "Astro"; I think they got bought out (or out marketed)by Dymo. Many Bogleheads remember the Dymo label makers of that era. They're still made today but generally have given way to computerized labeling products.

Anyway, I see a number of the original Astro label makers on Ebay and I'd like to buy one. Problem is I can't seem to find any 1/4 inch tape as the standard quickly moved to 3/8 inch. Sort of like buying a Sony Betamax after years of VHS products.

Anyone know where I can get the 1/4 inch tape? Preferably new, not 50 years old? Obviously this post isn't as important as the debates over a 4% SWR safety or the need to put assets in trust to protect against whatever. But I really would like to own one with usable tape.

I ALWAYS wanted one of those embossing label machines.

Perhaps this would work? Maybe try a 6mm search:

OR Vintage tape:

The woodgrain labels were so cool. Made for desks. Man, you just tweaked a serious memory for me!
