sending a fax to IRS (w/o a fax machine!)

Hi,

I'd prefer something that works over a Windows machine, but I'll consider an android app

Anything you recommend? I'm concerned about privacy issues and giving my SSN to 3rd party

ps. Anybody still uses fax besides government ?

FedEx Office or UPS Store is where I'd go for this.

Or talk to a friend who works in an office and ask them to send it for you.

Or talk to a friend who works remotely for a big company. They all have scan-to-fax capability.

Are you near a UPS store, or the like, where you can use their fax equipment? I find the UPS store faxing inexpensive and efficient. They don't have to look at your documents.

If you have a home printer that also will function as a scanner, there’s a possibility that it has fax capability.

I believe you are limited to five faxes a day for free, and it may put a logo or something on the fax, but should be fine for what you need. Does not require registration, only that you have a valid e-mail address for you to receive a clickable link to confirm the transmission.

BTW, yes, medical offices, insurance companies, and other places that "are required to use fax due to HIPPA" (their excuse) are the parties who are still using fax.

I saw that one. max 3 pages what is fine in this case. I don't mind paying $2 for full service.
I would not mind sending less confidential documents. But I'm worried about who stores my documents.

Just for completeness, I'll cover the last way you might be able to do this at home.

Are you still using that old WinXP PC with that 56K fax/modem card as a doorstop in your computer and hobby room? Come on, be honest.

You'll have to scan your document (with your scanner/printer) to a PDF and put the file on a USB. Then, sneaker-net it to your old PC. You don't want to even connect your old WinXP machine to your home network, either. And don't connect your old WinXP machine to the internet, just use it to send a fax using the old fashioned phone line!

Probably easier to just go to the FedEx Office or UPS Store, eh?

We do our faxing at Staples. They’re open most of the day.
