Definitely.
She has been with you for 10 years and this could be her only income.
When it rains on Friday, my gardener does not come to mow my lawn. I still pay him.
Every once in awhile I give the gardener a tip for his excellent work.
Doesn't he just come the next dry day?

I had an appointment with my hair dresser today (color/cut). I called her Tuesday to let her know I wanted to postpone it. It was clear she was sick when she answered the phone, and she said she had been tested for Coronavirus Friday, but had not gotten results yet. I sent her the amount I usually pay in a card as a gift. It was in the budget so no sacrifice on my part. As of Thursday, we are shelter in place, so her business is closed indefinitely. If she doesn't work, she has no income.

For those leaving payments under a mat, consider using Venmo. Your cleaner should be staying home.
Good point! I’ve never used Venmo so it didn’t even occur to me. I will text my cleaner about it for the next payment. I’m still not fully adjusted to this changed world and the new way of thinking :P
Or Paypal. I found out that Paypal owns Venmo FWIW. :happy

I would be in big trouble if it rained a couple Fridays in a row. My guy always squeezes it in somewhere. Different climates I guess.

We’ve had the same cleaning lady for 20+ years. We can afford it so we are paying her for as long as this situation lasts. I suppose it’s possible that something could change to make us so paying, but that isn’t on the radar yet.

Yes! Our trusty housekeeper is paid via the bank Billpayer service every month and we certainly will continue paying this hard to find, loyal lady as long as it takes until The All Clear message to go up...

Paying housecleaner during COVID shutdown

Post by mgk2010 » Wed Mar 25, 2020 12:39 pm

Hi

Our house cleaner is no longer able to come and work due to local COVID shelter in place order. We would like to compensate her in some way, until thing settle down. We have heard things like

' we are getting paid so they should get paid '

' pay 50%'

' pay a lumpsum for now, and re-evaluate need when home cleaners are allowed to work again'

Can i request how other BH'er may be handling this?

Thanks in advance

I'm planning to pay my house cleaner in full for the time missed...She's been doing my house for about 5 years and gives my children gifts at Christmas time, etc. The next time she comes, I plan to just give her a larger check to compensate. She actually hasn't canceled yet, but I'm going to tell her not to come in a few days when she's scheduled to do so (she typically comes every other week). It's something my wife and I have discussed though, so isn't necessarily an obvious path. Everybody needs to do decide what they're comfortable with. My larger decision is going to be if childcare decides to refund us back some money for services not used....That's a much more hefty sum (and for two children). As of now, haven't been told anything so continuing to pay full freight there even though not using the services since it's closed.

I am continuing to pay for the full amount to my house cleaner, and when the time comes that I will miss my appointment with my hair dresser due to shelter-in-place, I plan to pay my hair dresser the amount I usually spend on my haircut.

I don't expect any additional services once things return to normal.

I paid her in full via Venmo. I am asking her to do an extra cleaning item when she returns, whenever that may be. She's been cleaning for me for many years. I am not paying some others like my hairdresser and chiropractor. Of course, that being said, I've been laid off, so decisions need to be made.

My house cleaning actually got more expensive because not only are we mailing her the usual checks without her coming to clean, which we think is the right thing to do, but now we also have to spend the time to clean. Fortunately we aren't having a large land/hardscape project going on so there isn't lots of extra dirt and dust tracking in. Wait... :|
