Three Fund Portfolio

Post by masterchief » Tue Jan 14, 2020 4:37 pm

Hi Bogleheads!

Just asking what my Domestic Stocks Asset Allocation be if I live in NZ? Or my asset allocation be for the 3 Fund Porfolio.

Cause the Domestic Stocks are in US and I live in New Zealand, so Domestic Stocks would equal International for me, So I'm wondering what would be good for me?

Many thanks

Assuming you are not a US citizen or green card holder (right?), you can find some suggestions in the non-US domiciles section of the wiki. For example:

Simple non-US portfolios - Bogleheads

NZ has no estate tax treaty with the US. If you plan on investing more than $60,000 USD, you will want to avoid holding the usual US domiciled ETFs discussed on this forum by US based investors, and instead prefer either local or Ireland domiciled funds or ETFs.

Since you're from NZ, your domestic stocks are whatever gets traded on the NZ Stock Exchange.
Is there a NZX Index ETF? That would probably be your domestic stock allocation.

Having said that, I think the idea of a domestic stock portfolio is not always necessary. Ted's links to sample AA for non-US investors gives some ideas.

Hi All!

Thanks for your reply, the links to Non-US investors help me with making decisions

Just thinking about Asset Allocation with regions and sticking to global diverse ETFs. New Zealand's currency is doing well but or stock exchange is quite small at this moment.

Many thanks
