limo travel to nyc from nj

Hi,
Our grandchildren are interested in seeing the Museum of Natural History in NYC. We live near Princeton NJ and have not been to NYC for many years - near 80s both of us. Thinking of using a limo service to take 6 people to the Museum. Does that sound possible? Thanks.

When my mother was in the final stages of cancer she wanted to go see one more broadway show(lion king) so we took a limo from PA to NYC and they were able to drop us off at front pick us up and take us to a restaurant for dinner too before coming home. So I would say its definitely do able.

Sure but you can also take NJT into Penn Station then the 1 to the museum for a tiny fraction of the cost and probably a quicker trip.

Hi, buddy. Nowadays, Uber is the new "limo service". They have SUV or higher end cars too, if you want that. It is easy to see the cost of the trip to NY before you book it, along with a pretty decent estimate of travel time. If you are not familiar with Uber, I am sure at least someone in your family uses it.

From there, you can compare cost and travel time, and decide if it is a good option compared to train or driving.

I don’t find limos comfortable, most people sitting sideways and having to slide down the seat with the low roof. The grandkids may get a kick out of it though, probably want to have them go in first so you can sit by the doors and not have to slide further in.

I travel with groups of customers, and switched from limos to Sprinter vans and party busses for comfort. We leverage Boston Corporate Coach which seems to be able to find you whatever type of car you need anywhere in the northeast.

Also, Limo services that use Suburban/Tahoe/Escalades work well too for groups up to 6.

A Suburban or Denali should hold all of you as long as it has bench seats instead of captains' chairs. Or the Sprinter van as suggested above.

I have not been in years, but I used to drive in and park underneath the museum because the children could leave their coats in the car while visiting the museum, and then retrieve them when we wanted to wander the city.

To get an estimate for Uber: https://www.uber.com/us/en/price-estimate/. As of now, an Uber XL (larger vehicle) would be about $135 from Princeton to the museum, and about $190 return.

NJ Transit from Princeton to NYC would be $17.75 per person ($8.20 if age 5 to 11 or over age 62) each way. See njtransit.com. It's a short subway ride, $2.75 per person each way.

Try Groundlink. You can use them in most cities but they're based in New York and Chicago. Excellent service and the prices will probably be better than Uber or Lyft.

This is exactly what limo service is for. It won't be the cheapest way to do it, but it will be the most convenient.

Using some form of driver will be the easiest for you and also on you.
You'll arrive rested for what will probably be a lot of walking and standing at the Museum. And then you can kick back and rest on the way back.

If you were planning to do this every day, the costs would really add up, obviously.
But for an occasional special outing like this, isn't this part of what we save for... especially time to spend with the grandchildren?

Uber has more than one level of service, and my understanding is that you can get newer/larger vehicles. Just check that the seating will be comfortable. But you can compare prices of a few options.
("Limo" is no longer specific to those lengthened/stretched cars with the seating rows along the side, often pictured for parties. "Car Service" is probably a better category these days.)

One other thing: You want a round trip, but with a significant time in the middle. So double check with the services if it is less expensive to hire a driver who waits, or two different drivers, each doing a round trip.

Sure, that might work for a young person. But we are talking about an 80 year old person who is going to find it difficult to navigate through the mess that is Penn Station.
