Insurance for Canadian traveling to United States

Post by sawhorse » Mon Dec 02, 2019 3:29 pm

My elderly (late 80s) Canadian relative plans to travel to the United States a few times next year for 1-2 weeks each time. She is healthy, but at that age health can change quickly.

I'd like to help her purchase insurance that will cover medical emergencies while she is in the US. I'm particularly interested in annual plans, but advice about single trip plans is much appreciated too.

The Bogleheads has a Canadian sister site, you might ask for suggestions there.

The Trip Insurance Store is often mentioned here when people in the US are traveling out of the country. I have bought policies through them and it went smoothly. I had no problem collecting a couple of hundred dollars for one minor claim I have had.

I would give there 800 number a call to talk with them.

Be sure to understand what pre-existing conditions will be covered.
