Apple T2 Security Chip: Upgrade Worth It for Security?

Post by RooseveltG » Fri Nov 15, 2019 6:59 am

I am considering replacing my old Macbook with a newer one containing Apple's T2 security chip. Do these really increase security or is it mostly hype?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Roosevelt.

Secure boot and improved data encryption are not hype buy they are hopefully features you never see because they just work in the background. I usually use my laptop at a table with the clamshell closed and an external monitor so TouchID is not usable to me. This chip would not be a deciding factor in which model I would get and alone it would not be a reason to upgrade.

I would just plan to replace a Macbook every 3-4 years. Improved performance of a faster CPU, more memory, and solid state drive even on websites really makes using the computer more enjoyable.
