Did my SIM card / cell phone get hacked?

Post by imsomeguy » Thu Nov 07, 2019 7:44 am

Last night a buddy of mine got a text from "me" around 3am that I never sent, nothing in my text thread.

And the same thing happened to my wife's phone and a friend of hers around 2:30am. My wife's friend got a text that my wife never sent.

Has anyone had this happen go them before? Any ideas what I should do next?

Certainly suspicious. But not sure why a SIM Card hacker would do that to text your friends. What was the nature/content of the texts?

Cheers

Call your cell service and watch your bank accounts

I would definitely call your carrier. This could be a loser mutual friend using a spoofing service to punk you and your friend that received the text. If it is - drop them like a hot potato like they are a leper. You may want to check with another friend(s) in your contact list to see if they received a text from you as that could indicate a hack of your phones of some sort (maybe, possibly, unlikely). Once again I doubt a true SIM hack would be used to do something like this.

Major pain in the butt. Sorry.

Cheers

Probably just some idiot with a grudge who used something like this:

Probably spoofing as mentioned above.
I'd think about the FOUR numbers involved (you, wife, wife-friend who received, your friend who received) and who you know that has all 4 of those numbers (and whether they owe you a prank or have a reason for a grudge).

Call your cell from another line. If your cell (i.e., the one in your hand) rings, you are fine.
