Where to go "borrow" fast upload speed

Post by mtwhmemn » Tue Sep 10, 2019 10:41 am

I have a need for faster upload speed than I have at home tomorrow. Any leads on where I might borrow some fast upload WiFi? I live in a medium size city. Thanks.

You can get a daypass to a co-working space. They should have "business" level internet speeds with faster upload speeds than a typical residential contract.

I think you missed the word "borrow". I have no budget for this other than the cost of coffee.

I find that Starbucks and the library generally have good speeds but they may vary between locations and how many others are using the wifi at the same time. If you need a steady guaranteed minimum speed, I wouldn't rely on them. But if you are just downloading or uploading large files, I find they work well.

What I usually do when I arrive is turn on my laptop, search google for "speed test," and make sure the Internet connection is working well. Only after that do I get my Starbucks drink. If I have big uploading or downloading to do and the connection sucks, I go to another Starbucks or library.

Here’s a pcmag article comparing coffee shops’ Wi-Fi:https://www.pcmag.com/article/363095/th ... wide-wi-fi

ETA: looks like Dunkin’s the winner among the most widespread chains.

In that case, Starbucks it is. A tall Pike Place roast is $2.15 at mine and includes WiFi.

Hadn't thought of the library. Thanks. As for other comments, quick download is pretty easy to find. I need quick upload.

At my local Starbucks, I usually get about 36MBit/sec (4.5MBytes/sec) download and 10MBit/sec (1.25MBytes/sec) upload, unless the place is crowded, then it's lower.

College Library.
Most college libraries will still require a password.

The university where I earned my MBA had internet access so fast that the connection to the PC was the bottleneck. I hope they don't mind the cloud backups that I ran while sitting in class.
