My deepest gratitude goes out to Jack Bogle (RIP) and my fellow Bogleheads for the positive difference they have made in my life.
You just reminded me that I don’t express my gratitude often enough. I don’t post in this thread often, but it’s great to see the Boglehead results.
Okay, I get it; I won't be political or controversial. The Earth is flat.

Today I logged onto Vanguard and executed a sale related to my first RMD: the first of several QCD checks I have planned. (The part of the RMD I am keeping for myself will be executed in the second half of the year.) It's gratifying knowing that I am able to increase my giving in retirement. Whee!

An aside: I noticed that since the first of the year my IRA has grown by a figure that is more than double the 2019 RMD. I'm guessing that this is not that unusual for early RMDs and may not happen as often once the divisor starts getting much smaller. And then, if the market tanks ….
Congrats. Just to double check - since you are performing QCDs, you are/will be over 70 1/2 when you write that first QCD check correct?

Cheers

I was enjoying reading these posts yesterday and today, and generally do not like paying so close attention to my portfolio so as not to feel like we are doing so well, which helps me save. Admittedly, I am always a little envious of all the posts, considering we have always had a pretty meager income. Been working for close to a couple decades now.

But my goodness, I just added up some numbers, and realized that as of last week, with a $12,000+ check that came in from my freelance work, we crossed the half million mark, and stand at $511,000! Unbelievable, I am speechless. $80,000 is in a taxable dedicated to children’s college, but it consists of 401ks, Roths, HSA, and taxable, not even having to count home equity as I thought I would to make this mark. Oh happy Tuesday. It all started with something like a $1,000 Roth IRA account. To all you who are starting out, only able to put away a few thousand here and there in your Roth, stay the course.

Hats off to all my Boglehead peeps out there. Wish I could buy one of you a drink today.

2 commas used to be a badge of honor around here - a mark of "we've arrived". Not any more. Now it's $2M or above. :sharebeer

Just wait until the next market correction hits. All these people who have crossed the $2M goal post will get to cross them again.

Nobody else to tell about this, so I'll post it here: today was the first day we had to use a second comma for our net worth! Woo hoo!

I'm loving this thread! So inspiring. I'm about to turn 30 this year and am currently NEGATIVE $95,000 due to student loans, car debt and not enough investments and cash. Working on it though! I'm curious how many of you in (or near) the "two comma club" started in your early to mid 30's.

Due to an almost comical series of "unfortunate events'" - heavily invested in real estate during the crash, putting an (ex) wife through undergrad and dental school before divorcing right after her graduation, and 11yrs of university education myself - I found myself pretty darn close to broke at 30 even though I had worked very hard and lived very frugally since leaving home at 16. I just turned 38 a few weeks ago; we're right at $650k in retirement investments and another $200k in home equity. I should have a paid off home and around $1m in liquid assets by the time I hit 40. And, even though the wife and I have mixed feelings about paying for our children's education (we didn't receive a penny in assistance from our parents), our 7 and 4yr olds already have enough in 529s to nearly cover 4yrs at the local university (at currents costs). Amazing how fast progress can be made.

Finished residency training at age 30 with negative networth around $40,000. Just crossed into two comma club earlier this month at age 35, so a little less than 5 years to do it. It's hard, but can be done with enough income, savings, time, and a long bull market.

Went to graduate school, I got my first "real" job in my early 30's. It took about 20 years, a lot of summer teaching and every opportunity to earn extra money to reach it.

Happy to share two milestones. In April, we crossed the 1 million net worth mark (including primary residence) and we also finished maxing out 3 retirement accounts opened in 2018: two Roth IRAs (both with catch-ups) and a HSA (with family plan limits and one catch-up). We only started last year to save at a rate that would max out our 403b's, so filling up three more tax-advantaged buckets on top of that was a big deal for us. Many thanks to advice from Bogleheads!

CONGRATS to all the BHs.... :sharebeer :beer :sharebeer :beer :sharebeer :beer :sharebeer :beer :sharebeer :beer

Over the past 22 years (since I got serious about investing), we've passed many milestones. We celebrated our two comma club about fifteen years ago. That was a big one! Our joys now come from choosing to live frugally, giving philanthropically, and experiencing the abundance that comes with control of our finances----and our time!

I so appreciate the great community of sane, serious, sharing people here at Bogleheads. It's inspiring!

So Klang (btw - you're no fool :D ), is this investment portfolio still 50/50?

I started my formal job at 34 with about negative $5,000 medical bill, after taking very long time to finish my Ph.D. degree, my wife started her job two years later. We were in the two comma club when I was 47, excluding a paid off house.

Many of my friends took a much longer time to get there.
