Highlander would likely be my choice. Less expensive than Lexus. Better for road trips than CR-V. Pilot or Passport would be the comparable Honda models.

I had some concerns on the ingress/egress but found the 2018 Mazda3 Touring was a good fit for us. Limited back seat legroom. Excellent for local driving. Good A/C and available without a sunroof. Next car might be RX or Passport, but I'll likely check out another Mazda. 2019 Mazda3 just arrived this month; perhaps some deals to be had on a 2018.

Edited to correctly note Honda model Passport. No reason that Nissan Pathfinder could not also be on my short list.

What? These are completely different vehicles. One is a luxury crossover, one is a big 8 seat vehicle, and one is a Honda Civic based compact SUV. Do you prefer spending money on high end materials and trimmings, or more space and utility? That's up to you.

The RX 450h and Highlander hybrid are essentially the same car, but the highlander has a 3rd row (the RX 450 hL would have a 3rd row too). The difference is that the Lexus is finished more luxuriously and costs $10k more.

The Honda is a different category. Look up the long thread here on oil dilution problems.

As the owner of a Toyota 4Runner (limited) I would say meaningless prestige. Sorry, I know it wasn't on your list, but if you were considering burning $$ on a Lexus, why not get the comfort and utility of a 4Runner. 8-). In all seriousness, I've had mine for about a year and absolutely love it. Lots of creature comforts, great for family road trips and handles extremely well in snow.

No CarPlay in the Highlander is a dealbreaker.

Drive them, I have found the eight-speed transmission in the 2018 Highlander basically sucks. The car doesn't want accelerate much until it shifts into third. The six-speed transmission in my 2014 Camry is much better.

We have a Lexus RX.

I assure you there is no prestige walking out of the grocery store and trying to pick out ours from the other 77 silver RXs in the parking lot.

It's also a ridiculously boring car, but not as boring as the other two you are considering.

To the best of my knowledge, "highland hybrid" does not exist. Do you mean Toyota Highlander Hybrid?:

https://www.toyota.com/highlanderhybrid/

If so, this is the best choice of those that you are considering.

Don't waste more money than necessary on 4-wheel transportation.
Among these three, buy the CRV.

You put CR-V in the list, so I'll bite. We bought a 2019 Subaru Forester. It's only been 5 months, but it has been awesome. It handles so confidently in inclement weather (snow and rain). I would also do a used AWD Land Cruiser or Lexus LX 570 (decked out Land Cruiser).

Toyota just showed the new Highlander, which rides on a new platform. You may want to buy that one or wait until they start discounting the old ones.

A new Lexus RX using that new platform should follow in the next year.

Test drive the 2019 Honda Passport. A mid-sized SUV. The V6 engine is great!
