Western NY Bogleheads Local Chapter Established
Are there any other Western NY Bogleheads who wish to start a chapter in the area? If there are 4 or 5 others, I will try to set up a meeting locally.

I see there is someone from Niagara Falls and someone from Lewiston. Would a Tonawanda or North Tonawanda meeting location work?

Looks like you've got enough to get a Local Chapter going.
Will the Coordinator PM me with a first name and an email that you'll use just for this purpose (don't use your personal email since it will be public and you don't want spammers to get ahold of it).
Suggest something like WesternNYBogleheads@google.com.
Once I have that info, I'll make it official and add your group and contact info to the Local Chapters Map so others can find and contact you.
You'll be able to use this sub-forum to communicate with each other.

Re: Calling all Western NY Bogleheads
For interested WNY Bogleheads,
I scheduled a room at the Tonawanda Library for our first meeting. The date and time are Saturday, May 11 @ 10:00 AM. Tonawanda Library is located at 333 Main St., Tonawanda, NY. You can contact me at:
WesternNYBogleheads@gmail.com
At this first meeting, I thought we could do an introduction, plan future meeting places, dates, and times, have a brief discussion on Boglehead Philosophy from the Wiki, and finally come up with some topics that the group would like to discuss at future meetings.
Hope to see you there,
Maid of the Mist

Interesting how many of us are from Niagara Co. (add me) or the Northtowns!
Unfortunately, have a conflict for this meeting. Will watch for future ones, though.

Re: Western NY Bogleheads Local Chapter Established
I wanted to remind folks that our first meeting of the WNY Bogleheads will be Saturday at 10AM. I have reserved the main room at the Tonawanda Library located at 333 Main St. in Tonawanda.
I noticed a couple of folks are unable to attend this meeting but would like to attend future meetings. Please send me an email at WesternNYBogleheads@gmail.com or leave me a message on this board and let me know your preferred meeting days and times and the area you live in. One of our meeting discussions will be on location and time for subsequent meetings - and while we can't please everyone, we will use as much information as we can get to better locate and time our next meeting. So if you are unable to attend, please provide preferred days and times (and days and times you cannot make it also). We will do our best to schedule for the convenience of most folks.
Thanks,
Maid of the Mist

Re: Western NY Bogleheads Local Chapter Established
There will be a second meeting of the WNY Bogleheads on July 29 (Monday) at 6pm at the Tonawanda library.
We will have a short presentation on Tax Efficient Fund Placement followed by a discussion on this topic.
We will try out a Monday evening meeting to see if folks prefer this timing versus the Saturday morning.
I hope to see you there.

Hi,
I am in the Rochester area. I am not sure if there are any other chapters in the area or just this one. Either way, I would like to join this chapter.

Re: Western NY Bogleheads Local Chapter Established
WNY chapter had two meetings with very low attendance. If there are folks who would like to get together, I think it would be interesting and fun.
We have three hurdles to setting up another meeting. First, do we have a few folks interested in meeting? Second, can we get a room to have a meeting in (I believe all local libraries are closed)? and Third, can someone organize this effort? (unfortunately I cannot over the next couple months).
It would be wonderful if someone could spearhead this effort.
If there is interest in meeting but no one wants to take the lead in coordinating, I can do it in 2-3 months.
Please send me a PM if you are interested in coordinating these chapter meetings. If not, but you are interested in meeting - send me a PM and if I get a few responses,I will set up a meeting in August. If there is no interest, we should deactivate the chapter.

Brand new Boglehead from East Amherst here! Not sure if you’ve got a chapter member list, but would love to join. Would love to attend a chapter meeting when things settle down (COVID-wise). Could always do a Zoom meeting (if people aren’t sick of Zoom meetings yet).

Re: Western NY Bogleheads Local Chapter Established
WNY folks,
Is this an active group? I grew up in Rochester and get back there frequently (6-8 times a year). I'd like to check it out and see how things are going. I live out west and there is no group that I know of near me.
