Recommendations for counter depth 70" tall, 36"wide fridge

Post by ram » Tue Mar 26, 2019 8:30 am

We live in a rural area with few stores. Prefer models that do not need parts shipped from overseas and take many weeks.
With or without icemaker are both fine. Costco is too far away for such heavy things. Thanks.

When we built our house I simply made the cabinets deeper on the wall the refrigerator was going on. Now we can use any standard depth fridge and have the same look as an expensive counter depth refrigerator.

I've seen a similar approach where some people frame an opening in the wall behind the fridge, or potentially steal some space from the room behind the fridge (especially if it's a closet or pantry). Depending on your house and situation, that might be more cost effective solution.

I have this slightly shorter model which I strongly recommend: https://www.lg.com/us/refrigerators/lg- ... frigerator

In addition to being counter-depth it's also narrow. But the interior space is so efficiently laid out we have no trouble keeping a week's worth of fresh groceries for two in it.

It's also been reliable so even if this one is too small, consider an LG.

I have a Samsung RSG257 and have been very happy with it (4 years old). It is 70" high with the hinge and a little under not counting the hinge. It is a side by side. If you are looking for a built-in, this isn't that style (or price). I did make it fit my kitchen perfectly though with cabinet trim. It holds a lot for a 36" counter depth- around 24 cubic feet. I also haven't had the problem of things being too cold in the fridge in some parts I've had with other fridges. I think it is due to having twin cooling which as I understand means 2 evaporators (but only 1 compressor). I bought the stainless steel version and like that the water dispenser was not black plastic which looks awful to me. I paid under $2k.

I bought LG LFXS 30766S standard depth, french door, lower freezer model. It has a door in door which seems to be more useful than what I thought. Icemaker is small but adequate for our needs. Cant comment on reliability yet but good per consumer reports.
Last fridge lasted >10 yrs with the ice maker shut off (water source shut off ) for last 3 years. I have resigned to the fact that icemakers last for 60-70% of the refrigerators lifespan.

Now we have a regular depth fridge in a counter depth location and it protrudes out 5". It is in a corner and wife is happier with the larger interior volume. I do not care.

Thanks everybody.
