Having to pick just one of so many great ones, I'll go with this one naming the two general areas he most focused on, the financial industry and the all-too-human investor:
The two greatest enemies of the equity fund investor are expenses and emotions.

"Stay the course". (I add, the trick is to find a course that is worth staying on. Then staying the course is easy.)

My favorite. Not only is it simple, but so true.

Since it was already taken I'll go with (parprhasing), "We all think we are above average investors just like we think we are above average dressers".

Good luck.

Such a great line. I am loving this thread.

For many of Mr. Bogle's great attributes his best (in my opinion) is his way of conveying HUGE amounts of wisdom if a very simple sentence that the common man can understand. The test of a great teacher is one that can teach a complex topic to a common Joe. He did that.

Good luck.

This is a nice thread but a difficult one for me to post to as there are so many quotes from Mr. Bogle over the years that have had impact!

That said I have always liked "Simplicity is the master key to financial success."

Thank you so much Mr. Bogle for always fighting for the little guy to earn their fair share.

One of my favorite Bogle quotes is, “The greatest enemy of a good plan is the dream of a perfect plan.” It compliments, “Don't look for the needle in the haystack. Just buy the haystack!” which IS my favorite along with, "Stay the Course". It's difficult to pick just one.

It is sad when we don't get any breaks in this life, and sadder still when we don't recognize them when they make their appearance. But the saddest thing of all is not to have readied ourselves to make the most of them.

"In an uncertain world, tactical change should be made sparingly, and only if you are prepared to take the risk of being wrong."

I like this quote because I think many people misrepresent Bogle's beliefs, co-opting what he's said to further their own agenda or lend support to their own arguments at any cost. He was a thinker--not a dogmatist.

I have recorded more than 1,000 quotes by Mr. Bogle here. I tried, but I find it impossible to select a favorite because they are all so good.

Every time Mr. Bogle wrote a book (except his first book when I did not know him) he has sent me a "hot off the press" first copy with a personal message. This is what he wrote (in shaky handwriting) in his last book, Stay The Course
